GDT: 2023 NHL Entry Draft Day 2 Rounds 2-7 - 11AM ET, ESPN, ESPN+

Honzek, if there or gtfo

Also, is this thread gonna stand? @EdJovanovski is blocked by couple Posters, which can't see the GDT

They can go to the bottom right corner of the page and click the "show ignored content" button and will see the thread.

I also linked this thread in the last draft thread before it was locked, so they shall find a way to get here. lol.

Either trade up for Oliver Moore or Dmitri Simashev. If they stick with 23, then just go for Gracyn Sawchyn or Daniil But.

Outside the first round, Tanner Molendyk is a guy I would love to add to the system.

Cal Ritchie is a typical Rangers target though. This org LOOOOVES guys that were drafted high in the OHL Priority selection.

Othmann, Vierling, Cuylle, McConnell-Barker.
I like this. Moore and Simashev (from what I'm reading) would be great gets for us.

what happened to Sale? He was a top pick, was his past season that bad?

Dont like the Stramel piece from the Athletic at all.
Keep seeing and hearing his name attached to us and I’m already starting to prepare myself for it :thumbd:

Aside from the season opener, this is my favorite day of the hockey year and my job decided tonight would be the perfect night to have training .

Won’t be home till around 11pm and i’ll have to record and watch the draft when i get back. Which also means turning my phone off at 7 so people dont spoil things for me.

Not happy.

The only way I would be somewhat ok with it is if they trade back and either get a late first and a 2nd or 2 early 2nds and use one of the picks on him. I don't think Drury is that smart though, I think he'll just be elated with ceiling of a bottom 6 guy.

I hear you. I do this with games sometimes and since a lot of my buddies are hockey fanatics, sometimes it gets rough. hahaha. Good luck, buddy!

The problem Šalé is facing is that he was really good in juniors in previous years, but physically needs to mature a bit. He needs to fill out his frame and he made the jump to pro hockey where he probably wasn't physically ready for it. The talent is there. Talent-wise he's easily a top-10 pick. At every age group he was among the best in the world.

His Hlinka-Gretzky appearance was electric. He really put people on notice. He was simply fantastic. But in the Extraliga with Kometa Brno, it just didn't materialise for him. A lack of effort in the games I've seen but that can be contributed to him just being outmuscled so often that he picked his battles instead of draining his body for battles he knew he couldn't win.

He reminds me a bit of Filip Mešár in that regard. At every level he was ahead of his peers that often he played against kids a year or two older. But now the jump isn't just 1-2 years. They go up against 25-year old, fully physically developed opponents. That's a big adjustment.

I don't think Šalé is a bad prospect. But him dropping in rankings makes sense considering the season he's had. The positives still outweigh the negatives for me, by a significant margin too.

Off-ice he is a great guy too. His teammates rave about him. He just needs time to mature. To grow into his frame. This is a guy that, if you draft him, is better off staying in Czechia for 2-3 years rather than being dumped in the AHL for the sake of development.

I expect there will be at least 4/5 good options at 23. So if we stay there and don't move down there's no need to be reaching. The guy I hope for most at 23 that I don't expect is Simashev. Other people I respect really like Danielson, really like Stenberg, really like Heidt. The most likely of those if any to last to 23 is Heidt. I like Gulyayev but I don't see him as top 10 Russian or not. I like Willander more. He's got a safer game and I like Bonk more too....and of course Sandin Pellikka and Reinbacher and Simashev. Gulayev is like battling for 6th best defenseman in this draft with Dragicevic. Saying that though I wouldn't be pissed if he was 23. I'm not into Brindley. Look at him as late 1st...early 2nd and with two already smallish buzzsaws in Sykora and Berard I don't think he adds as much to our prospect group as he might to some other teams. But is too much of a project to me.

He sounds like Pasta tbh. Obvious comparison

Question is, is this the type of player you win with?

About what time do you guys think our pick will be?
First round picks seem to drag on. Let's say around 5 min per pick that would be 105-110 mins in, an hour and 45 mins may be a safe bet to make sure you don't miss it.
... unless we trade up somehow.

Big mobile defenseman
Physical scoring forwards

That’s my template. You need to fit that mold unless you have Makar/ Hughes type of skating.

Hard to say but that's the million dollar question of course. At 23 you can get players that help you win. But it's difficult to identify them, and almost impossible to do that with any kind of certainty that late in the 1st.

Šalé has the tools, high hockey IQ, skill. As much as I like Šalé, I don't think he's necessarily the right target for this team.
