PP is shit anyway, so why being closed off at trying other combinaisons.
Closed off to what exactly. We've tried Suzuki at bumper it was horrible. The PP is constantly breaking down at our weakest link and the last guy to blame is Suzuki. When we get a player who proves to be more prolific than Suzuki I'm open to anything.

Sounds like a Brady Tkachuk post circa 2018

Funny, because Tkachuk was my pick. They are nothing alike.

Sorry! I just couldn't resist. :naughty:

For people who want Leonard, why do you think he's better than Barlow?
I prefer Reinbacher and Dvorsky over Leonard, but I have Leonard ranked just after them.

Leonard just has more tools in his toolbox than Barlow, he is the better skater, has better hands, is overall more dynamic, plays with more pace and a better playmaker ,I also like his puck protection more.

I like Leonard's game better than Barlow's, he just looks a lot smoother. But between the two, the most elite tool that either of them have is Barlow's shot. I agree Leonard is more slick, but is that enough to compensate?
Ultimately I think they both end up 2nd line winger types, maybe Leonard has a bit more upside than that. He is the better skater, but Barlows skating is better than it gets credit for- he’s one of those guys who’s always in position so you rarely see him hit top gear but when he does he moves well for his size.

Some people need to understand that Habs need to build a playoff team aswell. Ryan Leonard is maybe a reach at 5 for some people. But teams need players like that to have a long run in playoffs. Pretty sure everyone in this thread would like a Travis Konecny type of player in Habs system. But with Leonard, you have a better offensive minded talent than Travis Konecny, but bring the same aspect of the game than him.

The best exemple is Matthew Tkachuk isn't a goalscorer like Auston Matthews, but he bring much more than Matthews when playoff come. I'm 100% team Zach Benson or Ryan Leonard at 5.

Exactly…. Nobody knows… and he’s still ranked equal to Leonard in most rankings and ahead in some …… He’s the fastest skater in the draft , a centre to boot. I’m not saying he should be the pick, but he’s worth discussing.
Does seem every year there’s a guy who has less favourable opportunities on that USNTDP team that ends up being better than some of the guys who got more opportunities and drafted higher. Moore could be that guy this year.

My projection for Barlow is a goal scoring winger, think James Neal as an upside. He might give you 30 and even 35 goals in certain years but thats if he reaches his upside.

Leonard can play drive, skate better, pass better and is the harder worker while being a complete 200 feet player that can play center and win faceoffs. HE might also give you 30+ goals a year and flirt with PPG but more importantly he's a warrior. He was the heart and soul of line this year in his program and recently in the U18s.

People pimp Smith's skill but other than vision and playmaking, I think Leonard is better in most attributes. I'm also unsure if Smith would have been so highly regarded if he was without Leonard and Perreault on his line.

Players like that are prized possessions in the current NHL, from a Habs POV, in the past 10 years or so we had one player I'd define as a warrior and a scorer and that was Gallagher which was smaller and way weaker as an overall skater.

You need players like that to win, stat seekers prefer the Matthews and Marners of the world and sometimes it seems wed rather have a 100 point player then a cup here but time in time out such players have proved to be inefficient when it came to must win situations.

He's way above Barlow and for me there's 2 tiers of players in between them

Moore played 16min on average per game, 4th after Smith (17:44), Perreault (17:30) and Leonard (17:15).

I could be mistaken, but he played with Eiserman and Hagens most of the time. Both are gonna be top picks in 2024/2025.

I am a Barlow fan, people under-estimate his speed leadership.
He is a great athlete with quick twitch muscle producing explosiveness in the shot and speed.

I would no longer take him with our pick though as I think there are better prospects, which is a testament to the depth of quality.
