Yeah i know its early but 2022 draft discussion started pretty quickly too last year.
So far its #1 Bedard and #2 Mitchkov but after that what are players you are interested in for the Ducks ?
I don't see Bedard falling like Wright did at all. Who will be this years Slaf and Cooley ?

Blanket warning to everyone - the season is over, the active tanking is over, and everyone needs to remember how to get along.

Polite discussions of different viewpoints is fine. Assertions as to who is a good fan, who is a bad fan, and most particularly trolling behavior is going to result in thread bans and warnings. The vast majority of posters here are great about this. There are a few of you, on both sides of this issue, who are trying to start things, and I would advise you to carefully consider if that snarky comment you just made is worth being your last post in a thread. I would advise the folks who think that making an even snarkier response to make that same assessment. Neither of your posts will be seen by anyone else for long regardless.

It is perfectly fine to not understand how anyone could root for the team to lose. It is perfectly fine to not understand how losing has strong benefits to the franchise king term. There are gaping holes in BOTH positions, that may be discussed and debated…POLITELY.

We are all Ducks fans. Time to remember that and stop being at each other’s throats.

For quite a while now everyone has known that there was a top 4 which did NOT include Smith and that to be guaranteed to be drafting in the top 4 the Ducks had to finish 31st or 32nd. More recently, that top 4 became a top 3 for reasons we aren't allowed to discuss. So everyone knew that in order to be guaranteed a top 3 pick the Ducks had to finish 32nd. The majority of posts that I saw in the tank thread reflected that reality. Sure, Bedard is the prize but for at least the past month there has been growing realization that picking in the top 3 was absolutely the goal. Picking 1st is the dream. Picking 5th would have been a disaster after the season that just ended.
This is factually incorrect. It was expressly stated that topic of Russian players, that one in particular, can be discussed, but geopolitics cannot. An intelligent discussion may be had on the topic without wading into geopolitics.

I think the thought that you can say that there is a political situation, but can't discuss the situation itself and thus the implications of if and when Russian players can easily move to North America is a fallacy. It makes any serious discussion incomplete. As a result: 1) I am not discussing the Russian situation at all; and 2) I am not in favor of drafting any Russian players at this time.

You can talk about the skill of the player.
You can talk about the relative merits of the player’s performance in the KHL vs juniors, NCAA, or other European leagues.
You can talk about the 3 year delay in getting the player and how that affects the rebuild.
You can talk about if the player is enough better to warrant a 3 year wait.
You can discuss that the player may get paid (vastly) more by an oligarch.
You can discuss that the player may have military service that makes it more than a 3 year wait.
You can discuss that there may be visa problems.
You can discuss that there may be political concerns leaving family at home.
You can discuss that there IS a war.
(Tread carefully on the last 3, people NOT being able to control their urges and failing to tread carefully is why this post even exists)

You cannot discuss the politics of the war, your opinion of the war, Russian vs American/Canadian politics, or the like. But politics has always been off limits on HF, so there’s actually exactly the same limits as there have always been. The position that there is any more restriction on discussing this Russian player than other Russian players is the actual fallacy. There’s a LOT of discussion to be had in the “cans” up there.

The odds of the lottery are so annoying. We should have a 50% of picking first, but the odds are heavily in our favor picking third.

Bedard is on a tier of his own.. then it’s Carlsson, Fantilli and Michkov (people are still doubting him being picked by us - hilarious)

We're fortunate that the lowest we can drop is third due to the recent rule changes that started in 2021, changing from three draws to two draws. In the 2020 draft, the Red Wings had the worst record in the NHL and fell all the way to the fourth pick. The cap for falling down is two spots. Picking third is the result of not being able to move down at all. It could be worse, we could be stuck with the 2020 Red Wings situation.

This is the first draft where a team can only jump 10 spots, thereby giving the #1 team the extra 7% to the 18.5% chance to win the 1st overall owned by the worst team in the league.

I liked the system they had in like the early to mid 2010s and possibly before that as well. I think there was just 1 drawing and that was to move up 5 spots, so the 6th place team was the last team to have a shot at the 1 OA.

Think the worst team had a 25% chance at winning outright but it yielded right around 50% (might’ve been like 48.x%) when you considered all the teams lower than 6. I was fine with that, keeps things simple too.

Hated how it was before this change with the 1/2/3 system, so this is a step in the right direction I guess

I don’t mind 2. I think the biggest problem is 10 spots. I can handle dropping 2 spots to the 2nd and 4th team. That takes away the appeal of tanking. Dropping 2 slots to the 8th and 11th place teams is very different.

He's a sharks guy but did a nice job of explaining the lotto process. I guess they pick 4 balls for each of the two draws. Must be a master list where X% of the winning 4 digit combos belong to each team depending on standings position (so 18.5% for us).

How did he look?
I only caught half the game but it seemed like Sweden was rolling 4 lines, barely saw him out there. Did see a couple nice plays in tight with the puck as usual. The huge ice doesnt play to his skills at all. If he can find another gear and learn to move his feet a bit quicker he'll be much better on international ice. Regardless he's going to love NHL rinks with how little of space he needs to operate. I also think he's the kind of player that will score more in the playoffs than regular season.
