Probably similarly - later third of the first round. The questions asked about him are does his offensive game translate, will it start to come together or not, would probably still be there if he played the same way as he did with Loko at both tiers.
It's not that Jaccob Slavin has a great offensive game. :)

Give me Wood all day long. Size matters.

His profile reads exactly like what the Sabres need for Power's partner. Could they package something like Philly's 2nd and a swap of firsts to move up for him?
It is unlikely.

Here is why:

History of trading back in the top 20 of the NHL Draft

Hockey Draft Pick Transactions

2022: SJ traded 11 to Arizona for 27, 34, & 45

2021: Dallas traded 14 to Detroit for 22, 47, & 137

Edmonton traded 19 to Minnesota for 21 & 89

2020: Calgary traded 19 to NYR for 22 & 71

2019: Philadelphia traded 11 to Arizona for 14 & 45

2018: NONE

2017: NONE

2016: NJ traded 11 to Ottawa for 12 & 80

Philadelphia traded 18 & 79 to Winnipeg for 22 & 36

2015: NONE

2014: SJ traded 20 & 179 to Chicago for 27 & 62

2013: Detroit traded 18 to SJ for 20 & 58

Teams have not traded out of the top 10 for picks like in the NFL Draft in the last 10 NHL drafts.

The problem is they need a partner for Power now, not just in 3 or 4 years.
From what I read, he's the most NHL-ready D-man in the draft. Maybe they could get a bridge vet for a couple of years and have him ready in 2025.

If he slides to 10, moving up 3 picks + that extra second wouldn't be that big a lift, IMO.

Taking another undersized shooter at 13, as is likely the base case scenario, doesn't seem as appealing as a good RHD in the pipeline.

Seeing how Newhook has turned out so far since being drafted it makes me a bit scared of looking at guys like Wood who tear up in the BCHL -> College pipeline but maybe someone can shed some light on why that’s a fallacy

Newhook's production in the NCAA was the year after he was drafted compared to Wood doing it in his draft year. Wood also has five inches on Newhook already - Newhook's only 5'10". Same thing with Jost - he was productive in the BCHL in his draft year, got selected and then went off to college. He's also another smaller guy (5'11").

7 for 16 and a bad goalie

Trade up for Michkov or Benson or take Gabe Perreault and start a new french connection.
We can pick size and defense with the other picks, give me skill, skill, skill.

I said i think he falls to six yesterday. Can’t get him for a few years? Sounds perfect for Arizona. He’ll be available when they get out of the college rink

Yeah, the attempt to eat a cap hit.
You know the old saying…if at first you don’t succeed…good enough.

Arizona still needs their nr1 center.

Genuinely have no insight on Wood, but the two that come to mind are Turris and Jost . Benn was another but he pivoted to WHL rather than NCAA. I remember them as they - Newhook included - were drafted out of the BCHL which Wood is not so not completely comparable. Without digging I can't think of any D-1 BCHL NCAA drafted players. Makar came out the AJHL and he's turned out alright.

Yes, but that's not the point, given that Simashev has an elite defensive game, very good skating, hands and size. I saw him play for Loko in the KHL and MHL, he can sometimes do very good things even in attack.

I've seen him a bunch in both as well and if you sift through the thread, I'm pro Simashev.

I think if we use our 13th this year, it would be a major failure for this organization to not use it to bring in a #4 D who can play immediately.

There has to be a team soon to be rebuilding/writings on the wall team who would like to get started a little earlier in drafting before their downright bad and would be willing to let go of a good defensive defensemen.

Eh, there are other ways to acquire a D-man (such as next year's pick which should hopefully be later than 13, or using prospects/roster players), so discussing which player to take at 13 still has plenty of value.

I felt that way last year with the three first rounders in a draft most considered pedestrian. In the meantime, it's their pick and it's going to be the topic here.
