I thought this organization might learn something from the KK vs Brady T debacle, but no, they keep repeating the same mistakes, and failing strategy,

Once again they do not take the BPA, they take an inferior player just because he plays the position that they lack, and have an urgent need for,

Once again missing out on high end, top end talent,

Pathetic

If Reinbacher was what they wanted, why wouldn't they trade down to at least #7 or #8?

He probably still would have been there at #10

This pick tells me that the organization is content and happy with the current wingers situation, seeing as they didn't have any need for Michkov,

I can't believe the prize for a season wasted is Reinbacher

Would have been better off trading the pick for Keller or PLD

BPA in the KK draft was Zadina, not Tkachuk.

Comparing Reinbacher drafted out of the 4th best pro league in the world as a top pair draft eligible D to Fischer taken out of Minnesota high school hockey is really out there

They are both named David ! Is the parallel not obvious ???

Imagine how the Toronto fans feel. I have one die-heart Leafs fan on my staff and to bug him, I assigned him the following access code to one of our systems: 1967. He hasn't smiled at me since.

That said, Toronto had exciting teams in the Sundin years. We didn't.

f*** off with these picks for need. f***ing go BPA.

This comment is extremely concerning. Regardless of where Reinbacher will end up, in terms of the process, using a 5th overall pick based on a current positional need is just absurd. It's especially absurd because, while doing so, they passed on a rare talent who many predict will be a Kane/Kucherov-level franchise player.

I liked the pick much more before reading this comment. I mean they basically just admitted that if Reinbacher was left-handed they wouldn't have picked him. That's insane.

He walked it back when arpon clarified, he said he was the player the scouts wanted at five beyond positional

To be fair a top 4 RD with possible upside for more is extremely hard to come by in the NHL. After center, they have the highest value., both on the trade and free agent market.

That said, an elite offensive forward are also very difficult to come by as well. Decades of being a hab fan will only attest to that.

Everyone knows I would have taken Michkov.

Losing is still losing. At least some here were actually alive when Montreal last won a championship.

With 32 teams and a clear unwillingness to make aggressive gambles to be the #1 team, I'm left wondering if we're not better off favoring entertainment over "winning".

In a few years:

Caufield - Suzuki - Roy
Slafkovsky - Dach - Newhook
Farrell - Beck - Heineman
RHP - Kidney/Kapanen - Ylonen

Hutson - Reinbarcher
Guhle - Mailloux
Xhekaj - Barron
Engstrom

Montebeault
Dobes

Really need the young forwards to hit their potential
This team won’t only be made up of internally grown prospects - there will be more assets acquired via trade & UFA

I would just point out Cup winning teams have minute eating top pairing Dman - that has become perhaps the most critical building block

Guess we didn’t learn from Phil mistake when they pass on CC… or maybe we owed them one…
Between Newhook and Reinbacher KH is taking significant risk without very much reward…

I would suggest that trading two picks in a deep draft for Newhook and drafting Slafkovsky over everyone's then darling, Wright, could viewed as being 'aggressive gambles.'

I think it should be clear that Reinbacher wasn't getting past 6 with Arizona. I think they took Simashev because the habs took Reinbacher from out of their hands.

The habs identified Reinbacher as their guy, so they couldn't move down.

I don't care or give a crap about moving down,

Why didn't they just take the BPA high end talent for once?
