I mean, that WAS Cohen's goal. He could spend a bunch of money and trade the farm and win a WS right now if he wanted. He has that kind of money. Blow through the cap, pay the draft pick fines, etc.

But he wants sustained success. I really love the fact that he wants to win now but not at the expense of continued success going forward.

It's a lofty bar.
You can tell Cohen cares about the legacy of the franchise and his legacy as the owner. It's a match made in heaven and the fans are benefiting.

The deadline guys kept that inning going. Vogelbach with the double and Naquin with the triple.

This deadline has been a coup for the Mets.

Comment from the Amazin' Avenue comments section (can't verify this myself) that shows some of the incredible consistency of the Mets this year:
  • Games 1-36: 23-13 (.639)
  • Games 37-72: 23-13
  • Games 73-108: 23-13

And Bassitt was just a beast last night. Just powering through inning after inning. Shaky at times? Sure. But that was a masterclass in getting over your jitters and getting shit done.

Those records can be verified (23-13, 46-26, 69-39). It's amazing how you can be consistent when you have someone leading you that comes to the ballpark everyday and sets the standard needed to win. Buck was the biggest move this team made in the offseason.

Marte was a splash signing, and so was obviously Max Scherzer, but the moves along the margins this summer were also great. Bassitt headlines those. Ottavino has been very good. Canha is a professional that was lacking. Escobar has been okay, better in the room as it seems the players love him. Add in Ruf, Vogelbach, and Naquin. Givens hasn't been sharp, but it's too small of a sample, not going to give up on him yet.

The depth of the roster, and what will be the bullpen (one of the 5 starters will go to the pen), is amazing. Megill and Peterson in the bullpen, possibly Luchessi too. Really feels like all the pieces are in place to get the job done.

Mets are a legit contender. Maybe not the favorites, but they have the pieces this year. It’ll be a matter of staying healthy and getting hot at the right time. Fun stuff for a fanbase that doesn’t often get to be excited.

Agreed. And he was who I wanted. So glad we ended up going that route.

It's the first time in ages that I can remember the Mets looking professional up and down the organization. We had pockets in the past, but there were always at least one or two clowns.

Can someone explain these delayed starts? Due to inclement weather? As far as I can tell, there's zero visible precipitation. The field is dry. No sign there was a tarp.

Idk, they probably saw some chance of rain at the start and thought to just delay the start rather than potentially starting and then delaying the game afterwards.
