last 2 seasons AT 5V5
131mins

nino-lowry-appleton
13GF-2GA. 60%+ in shot/chance share stats

on-ice sh% is nearly 15% so idk if i expect nearly 6GF/60 to last however, there is no denying their proficiency to date.

nino doing what he does his whole career providing great 2-way play and adding a defensive or physical presence, while still being a good (great?) goal-scoring winger. appleton has been fantastic as well, his play-style just fits way better w/ more crash-and-bang rather than a skilled/finesse top-6 game imo.

I don't see the strategy of having KFC and 55 on the same line.
I'd say they are both primarily shooters, not playmakers, and below average defensively.

Switch 81 and 91.
KFC with Namestnikov and Ehlers who are great skaters, puckhandlers and appear to work well together.
Perfetti with 55 and Iafallo.
Definitely keep the Lowry line together. They are a 3 headed monster who are effective because they work in sync.

looks like vilardi is nearing a return...

i'd go with:

connor-scheifele-vilardi
ehlers-namestnikov-perfetti
nino-lowry-appleton
ajf/barron-gus-iafallo

I'd do the same to start off with but I'd also experiment with trying out both:

Perfetti - Names - Ehlers

and

Iafallo - Perfetti - Ehlers combinations to see which one works better

Iafallo goes to the net and can help that line in that aspect if the coaches trust Perfetti to play C. I don't think it happens anytime soon as Bones credited playing with Names as part of the reason for Ehlers return to form but would be nice to see.

If Vilardi can get that top line playing like an above average top-line in their 2-way play that'd be massive for the Jets.

Does barron have any offensive upside? Like any chance he becomes a 40 point player?

Combining all the hints from the coaches and the lines today, I think I know what they are going to do when Vilardi is back.

* Arniel said last week that Vilardi is going to play in the top-6
* Bones said yesterday that Vilardi has missed a lot of time and they won't wanna throw him straight on the top line playing 20 mins a night

That combined with the Connor-Scheifele-Ehlers combo in the 3rd tells me that the lines to start off with when Vilardi is back will be

Connor-Scheifele-Ehlers
Perfetti-Names-Vilardi
Nino-Lowry-Appleton
Iafallo-Gus-Barron.

Guessing he's a placeholder for Vilardi, but not sure I like the look of Perfetti - Names - Iafallo. Kind of a plodding line.

Bones sure likes loading his top line...

So if there are about 5 injuries 🤔
Not necessarily. I think he would be as effective as Appleton if for some reason Nino wasn’t here next year.

In the meantime given the 4th line minutes I think it’s unreasonable to expect any of them to get 40 points.

I like that top line. 55 for me has been the best or second best Jet forward this season, I wonder if he can help get Ehlers going.
I like the idea of Ehlers getting on shot on that line - I hope he takes advantage of it.
IMO, he needs to change his game a bit when playing with those two - that means not over lugging the puck (especially in the Ozone) and removing the blinders.
55/81 play a heads up game and they are constantly moving and looking for each other - Ehlers will need to do the same or he won't stick.

I also like that Ehlers is a more skilled target for 55/81 who tend to sometimes ignore the 3 wheel on the line - but Ehlers will need to do the same. Those guys like to set up plays - probably a bit fancier than I'd prefer, but that's what they like.

Hopefully villardi is a more talented lafallo as kc and schief need a guy to go to net and tap in greasy goals on their rebounds. To go to the corners to dig pucks and play good D. I imagine the Hyman role. Ehlers on that line is overkill with only 1 puck.

If greasy goals was what that line is about, I'd agree - but it's not.
Ehlers could be the guy that helps them a ton with zone entries making them extremely dangerous off the rush - which is what high skill lines need to be.
I get the net front thing but I don't think it would be as impactful as having that kind of skill / playmaking out there.

Chef and kc have been entering the zone pretty cleanly themselves. It just adds what they already have.

We shall see how it goes but there is only one puck and all three want a lot of it. That tends to lead to one player on that line getting left out of the action a bit. Someone is going to have to simplify and accept less for it to work imo.

If it sticks I'd like to see Cole with Gabe as Gabe scored a lot of his goals as a pure triggerman. As a right shot that should work well with Cole's playmaking. Given that line 2 has now been broken up I'd look to start transitioning Cole back to center. Do it slowly but I think they eventually are going to need to find a way for both of Iafallo and Vilardi to be in the top 6 as both are better players then Name.
