2023 iihf womens worlds..

Obviously Germany lost to the US, but 0-3 might be the best result they have ever achieved against the US team, and our goalie manages to keep her stats at an impressive 1.50 GAA and .960 sv%.

With all the problems womens' hockey is facing in Germany at the moment this is a really strong tournament for the ladies.

Scores so far for quarters...

2-1
3-0
3-2

And I assume japan and swiss will be very close.

It's getting closer and I am shocked tbh. Usually two of the quarter games are 10-0

Swiss ladies up 4-1 after 2.. I may have been wrong, that's the biggest blowout of the day if it remains this way. What is going on in Brampton?lol

Same semifinals as last year. Hopefully Czechs ans Swiss will keep it close.

Won't pick anyone for 5th place. All teams have a serious chance. Japan seems the weakest here but that didn't stop them last year.

Just realized.. no Slovakia? Where the heck are they?

Czechia was basically nothing in women's hockey until some 10 years ago, Slovakia is following the footsteps. And now Czechs are one of the countries always fighting for the bronze (and won it last year).

Having Nela Lopusanova should help them to get promoted for next year's tournament and then stay on for a while.

I'm not expecting close semi's but I was also really wrong about the quarters. I'll be watching closely! I'm more excited for Sunday's bronze game against Switzerland though.lol

That would be great.

Ice hockey is already kinda niche sport in Germany, but women's ice hockey then again is an even smaller niche within the niche.

So naturally, it's difficult to catch up with the big ice hockey nations. This years team is showing up great though.

my hope is that within 10 years womens hockey will be as or close to as competitive as the mens...........we are getting closer.

It's taken awhile but good things take time, I knew we would get there sooner or later.
Curious how long it takes for it to no longer be a major upset when countries beat Canada and US. 10 years seems accurate.

Yeah, I would say that's a liberal estimate at this rate.

These programs basically started from scratch so the initial build up was naturally going to take quite some time but once they firmly got rolling you see better more consistent results. A bit more to go before they are challenging on a regular basis but it's not too far around the corner.

It's about to start getting very interesting pretty soon..............thank God. As much as i love racking up gold medals having only two teams capable of winning them becomes so very stale and uninteresting and of course sucks for a sport as there simply isn't enough drama.

The battle for bronze is quite entertaining tbh. About 5 nations can pull that off.haha

It is, and about 3 of those 5 are going to start contending in the not so distant future and at least 1 of the other 2 are going to be spoilers for the bronze against the big 5.

That's what we are going to be looking at and it's obviously a good thing.

I expect 2 lopsided wins and both going to the finals. But I'm just so happy to not be playing for Pool B and relegation and such. It's an honor to lose in the semi's. I do think the girls will play a good game and keep it close for awhile but US is just too damn good.

There's always the oilers!!

You must be positively brimming with joy with what is happening there. They are going to be a real tough out in the west.

I'm ecstatic with our expected loss and Bronze match tomorrow. I really am. It's so nice to be freed from playing the same 3 countries over and over.lol Japan, Switzerland and Finland are like a mix tape I can't seem to get rid off. So an ass kicking from Canada or US - no problem!

Oilers have been unreal since the Ek trade and going with Skinner as starter. I'm still very pessimistic at a Cup run though and think LA will give us fits! Those 2 teams hate each other.. I find the matchup is as intence (eg. chippy, dirty) as the Battle of Alberta. Going to be fun!

On a personal note... My Oil are in the playoffs and my Czechs have won the quarters in 6 or 7 tournaments in a row. I haven't had experiences like this in a decade.lol It was literally a decade of our of the playoffs by Xmas, get smoke at Jrs on New Years, get smoked at U18 and then lose in quarters at Skoda's.. REPEAT!

L.A will be tough, think you will get by them though and hopefully with little in the way of inuries. Ekholm has indeed made a world of difference, Bouchard looks like a new player with him and Nurse is playing the minutes he should be and looks so much better. Great trade!!

And yes Skinner has solidified the net position and thank God....................they were sunk with Campbell.

It's funny becasue I ate so much shit for suggesting that we trade Barrie to free up Bouch. No way our PP would survive without Barrie. We trade Barrie, PP went up and Bouch is looking like a legit star. Great trade! And I liked Barrie (even part of the 2015 Prague Juggernaut!).

That's my big fear.. Skinner is awesome but he's a rookie, he's never played this much and is hoping to win 16 more games. I don't think he'd played 16 NHL games before this season.. however Ward, Murray and Binnington have done it in 'recent' times so it's not totally nuts I guess.

Also, the West is not filled with goaltending powerhouses.. they're mostly in the East. Helle is the big star and then Oetinger I guess. My pick to win the West is Vegas as Stone has miraculously recovered.lol Not sure what the health situation is in Colorado but if they get healthy they would be my fav. I'm not looking at ranking at all.. looks to me like all the matchups are very even. I don't foresee a single sweep. Same with the East which is stronger and more stacked and filled with elite goalies too!

How is the Habs lookout? I noticed Mysak has picked it up!

I remember the oils fans angst concerning the P.P sans Barrie, lol!! seems so silly now doesn't it? but it was a legitimate concern.

The Has lookout? lot's of work to be done, we still have to keep stockpiling talent and unload some dead wood and hope for the development of the young talent we have, this upcoming draft is really big for us as critical as last years, maybe more................................why couldn't we have gotten the first overall this year rather then last year? why oh why???????????????????????? lol

We are at least 3-4 years away from potentially having a real good team.
