Still think Scott Mayfield is our target.

PK was still bad at last season ,and Mayfield has been a great PK specialist for NYI all these years. They can't anyhow fit him under the cap, so he is gone for the next challenge.

6'5, physical righty. Exactly right guy to compliment any of our younger LD defenceman. They are all skill guys. Edvinsson, Wallider, or Määttä, Walman. There's just a fit.

Walman 6'2 - 6'4 Seider
Edvinsson 6'6 - 6'3 Chiarot
Määttä 6'2 - Mayfield 6'5
Wallinder 6'4

I think no one at NHL has bigger defence, after those guys are added.

Yeah, that looks like an Yzerman defense.

Defense is settled. Walman and Seider, Maatta and Chariot, and Ed and AlJo are coming in with a random ass depth vet depth signing like all the others we’ve made who on a one yr deal (see Hagg, Pysyk, Oesterle, Newpower, Stretcher, etc etc)

I know everyone wants Stevie to add a RD to push Chairot out but it’s not happening. Defense is basically locked with top 4 and Ed and Al are coming with some JAG vet to spin in the mix.

I don't think Johansson is a lock to be on the team at all.

Yeah, but he is a great trade option. We could get something else on other postion.

It will never bee "all kids" defence. That won't work. Just the best three/four will stay.

Seider as 22y old
Edvinsson 20y
Wallinder 20y
"Reinbacher 18y"

Thinks this could be the young core at maximum. Like Reinbacher being the kid still out of the NHL roster. And those three up. And weh nSeider wull start to be like veteran, as he almost is, then Reibacher will join the group.

But it's still a group of three kids and three veterans. If you think it would be with 4-5 kids at same time, that's not happening. those kind of defencemen groups have never worked.

Next 3-year plan:

Määttä, Walman, Chiarot as veterans...
Seider, Edvinsson, Wallinder as kids...

I'm in on Mayfield or Schenn. I also would like a Pierre Engvall signing. Not a fan of much else out there FA wise. Think Steve will need to trade to make a real impact.

Did you round up on some of those heights? Edvinsson at 6'6"?

people here replacing Hronek with Mayfield and a rookie on the Wings already weak blueline and calling it a day on the "Playoff team" Defense:

I think this is a bit over simplifying...

In your opinion... is the rookie better than Hronek?

Is Mayfield better than Jordan Oesterle?

Walman - Seider
Maatta - Chiarot
Oesterle - Lindstrom

Haeg
vs
Walman - Seider
Maatta - Chiarot
Edvinsson - Mayfield

Wallinder/Johansson. *

What's a better defense in your opinion? Idk about playoffs, that'll depend on other moves more than the defense alone.

Absolutley not

Trade 1 of our 1sts plus for lindholm
Sign Tarasenko, Dumba
Keep drafting
Not a fan of lindholm and a lot of people here are for some reason, so I guess we'll go with the consensus on him.

As for dumba, please god no, never liked him. Tarasenko I just don't see signing here unless he takes a little less so that he could be traded at the deadline to a contender.

Adding these three, we will be in the lottery again, we will all get our hopes up and then at the very last second, we will get our hearts ripped out again. Then again, we would probably win next year's lottery and pick #1 the year after the generational draft we are about to have.

Because he's a top 6 center. A right-hand shot defensively sound one to boot.

370 GP 362 Points -21
357 GP 288 Points -42
368 GP 321 Points -51
369 GP 325 Points +99
357 GP 275 Points -31

Those are the last 5 seasons for Elias Lindholm, Alex DeBrincat, Timo Meier, Clayton Keller, and Kyle Connor. Who is who?

His +/- is skewed by going +61 with Johnny Hockey and Tkachuk last season. With the Wings wingers his numbers will probably be worse than this season if he joined the team.

He's still better than any forward except possibly Larkin, so I'd take him but the price has to be right both in terms of money and assets traded. I don't think he's a player you go "all in" for.

They were defensively superior line. You think Johnny Hockey or Tkachuk was the selke-guy there?

No. The defensive superiority was all Lindholm.

You take that +61 out from the comparison, and Lindholm is still the only plus-side player of that group, by a far margin.

A Lindholm trade/extension wouldn't be the only move, 11 million needs to be spent to just hit the floor and I wouldn't consider it an "all in" type of move either, even moving multiple picks/prospects.

It's not like Red Wings will come off of Kasper/Cossa/Edvinsson for Lindholm. He's one of the best players to trade for that won't cost one of these guys. (imo).

Could just spend money in FA on worst players.

I want the draft to be here! Anticipation for seeing what Yzerman's going to do is killing me!!!

Let me introduce you to this kid we drafted last year.

He's realgud.

That was my exact thought in response to that post. When Kasper starts to round out I think the mantra will switch from "we need more center depth" to "we need more dynamic wingers". Having Kasper in the mix makes me feel cool as the other side of the pillow taking a scoring winger at 9OA.

On the flip side, Johnny Hockey is also terrible defensively.

why not?

Yzerman said that he developed faster and better than anticipated right before he got injured for the rest of the season (march I think he got injured?). If the injury doesn't hinder his growth over the summer and prospects camp, I could see him challenging pretty heavily.

I just want one bonafide sharpshooter on this fricken team. Is that so much to ask?

Debrincat, meier, keller, connor, IDC. Matvei if he falls and konstantinov his as* out of russia.

I think he would benefit from more development time and continuing to get stronger. I don't even think he had a sizeable role in GR til the second half of the season, if I'm not mistaken.

I think he is a guy you let overripen, to borrow a term I know everyone here is fond of.
