I did count the cap space for 2024-25 season too. Raymond and Seider will fit there.

I'm not that stupid. :)

Perron will leave, there's 2.5M dead cap space opening, upper cap limit going up, other contracts ending after 2024...

There's a lot of space.
Other contracts that need replacement contracts. Perron and Kubalik expiring and being replaced does not free up nearly enough for Mo and Ray. Their next contracts will add $10M+. And that is if one of them takes a lower bridge.

That and letting Perron walk to keep ROR? The rest of the division could only hope we're that dumb.

We should be worshiping at altars hoping the Leafs sign ROR to that deal.

~24M estimated cap space for 2024-25.

9 expiring contracts. (Perron, Kubalik, Rasmussen, Raymond, Berggren, "chiasson", "glendening", Seider, "strålman")

Replacements/extension:
---------------
Rasmussen 3.8M extension
Berggren 2.1M extension
Wallinder promoted 925k
Mazur promoted, 905k
13th forward, 800k
14th forward, 800k
-------------------
14.7M cap space left
for
- Seider 7 x 7 (long contract)
- Raymond 3 x 4.8M (takes a bridge)
- Kubalik replacement. (for the rest 2.9M, maybe Kubalik himself, 2-year extension is estimated to be 2.8M)

And all these numbers are from evolving-hockey, updated estimation tables.

Perron is let walk, because after his deal, he is starting to be pretty old. We don't keep hanging on him, some kid will internally grow to his role, like Mazur. Raymond takes the "salary-slot" from Perron. Mazur will take Raymond salary etc. Just numbers game.

The math is there.

No way seider gets 7x7 lol maybe 8x8.6
Also no way arizona gives us Keller for anything less than multiple 1sts with his contract.
Also no way Ottawa trades Debrincat to a division rival for a 2nd and zadina lol
Also zero chance Boston trades swayman for a 4th rounder...what were you smoking when you did these trades??? lol

Ok. But there's currently boatloads of flexibility, and the GM has shown good cap management throughout the competitive cycle in the past. So while I'm not advocating to sign every mediocre free agent in the books...

...if Yzerman wants to accelerate the rebuild, I'm confident that he can handle any financial repercussions that go with it.

I'm just not sure how seider get's 7x7 if we are being honest with ourselves. I see him making just under whatever larking is making by like 100k. I know it isn't a big different, but I just don't see 7x7.

I agree with Raymond. I think he gets a bridge of 2 years though and does around that 5-6 mil. Perron can get shot to the moon for all i care. I hope he gets traded at the deadline.

There is nothing about ROR for three years at nearly $7M that accelerates anything but cap hell.

It's basically advocating getting rid of all the flexibility we do have.

Don’t think O’Reilly for three years even makes a dent in our cap flexibility to be honest.

He’ll probably have a dozen stronger options than taking a three year deal with a small market team who hasn’t made the playoffs in almost a decade, so I wouldn’t lose sleep over it either way, but this team could give a 3x6.8 to Megan Markle and it wouldn’t put us in cap hell.

Tying up $7M for Megan or whoever with Seider, Raymond, Rasmussen, Berggren, Kubalik (or replacement), Perron (or replacement) needing new contracts, and with all but Perron likely seeing significant raises is not a favorable situation.

Speak for yourself. I'll donate right now to a GoFundMe if it means seeing Megan Markle at all the games. :D

You could give a 3x7 contract to charity, sign all of those players you listed to extensions/renewals, and this team would still have plenty of cap space to work with.

Well that would just be terrible cap management. The Illitch conglomerate has plenty of dough to give money to charity without it hitting our cap space.

I take offense to that. I always smoke before I post a trade.

Sounds great for Detroit.

I don't think Bertuzzi would feel the same way. He needs a retirement contract, not a one and done.

Yeah if Bertuzzi signs a 1yr 8M deal and gets a career-ending injury (or at least one that significantly hampers his play), then that's it for his career earnings. So 8M guaranteed and nothing else.

if he signs a 5 yr deal at 6M, that's 30M guaranteed even if he has a career-ending injury next season.

Gotta secure that bag. So unless he hits FA and the market is just really not there for a long term deal at a $ amount he's satisfied with, which I doubt given he's one of the premier FAs this offseason, he's gonna secure that bag.

He seemed to like it in Detroit so I could possibly see him taking a slight discount to come back, with a strong emphasis on slight given his history of contract negotiations. But I just think it's too risky to get him on the type of deal he wants and I don't want to be handcuffed to it. We've gotten the 1st round pick for him, I'm fine letting him go. If he's willing to take a 3 yr deal I'd entertain it depending on the $ value, but any more than 3 years is just too risky IMO.

I agree, factoring his injury history any team that gives term to Bert over 3 years won't be happy with that contract.

If Stevie doesn't have at least $7M cap space with that roster, he's not doing his job. This team is a lottery team, salaries need to be commensurate with ability. Basically, none of the players are as good as you think they are, otherwise this team would be in the playoffs. They will get lower salaries than you think.

Not that I want ROR for 3 x $7M.... maybe Megan though.

Severson is quite near the same player as Hronek. Has had same kind role in the past. But dropped out from their Top4 because they have committed to Hamilton and Marino on Right side, and skill does come from kids (L.Hughes & Nemec) on the next wave. So Devils are having a surplus of defencemen, and Severson is the man out, because it would be just stupid sign him-long term.
