I'm no NHL GM, but if you have this many passengers on your roster, I don't know why you wouldn't fill some of those spots with guys who can insulate our youth and raise their confidence a bit.

Maybe Verbeek doesn't want these guys playing too cocky and overconfident, but if another team ever decides to take liberties, this roster won't be ready.
Yeah getting your ass kicked and never having the puck is definitely a great way to develop a prospect... and possibly have them not want to re-sign here long term. Who knows how it's affecting the locker room/people. Maybe none of them care.

Couldn't agree more. It's still early in PVs GM tenure, but you start to think "actions speak more than words, and sometimes inaction speaks more than both of them"

There's been a lot of inaction this season to this point.

I get the inaction during the season. Prices are going to be higher I would think. Teams want their players for their own pushes to the playoffs. Who has actually been traded this season? If he can't fix the teams issues with 1 or 2 moves, which he can't, then it's probably best to save your assets until you have a bigger marker in the offseason and hope for that high end draft spot. My issues is that he let the team enter the season like this.

I think your 2nd part here is the bigger reason behind it. Trying to build some grit and character in each guy as opposed to just having a goon-type skating around protecting everyone. I think that can work for a short period of time, but at a certain point it can start to have a negative effect because its pulling guys out of their games too much. I think were getting to that point.

This was in reference to addressing team toughness, not to necessarily improving the team.

Wow that’s a lot for 2 rentals. Good news for us. Get these big fish outta the pond

It sort of looks like a haul at first glance with so many parts but most of the pieces don't really have a lot of value.

Gaudette and Abramov are both basically zero value throw ins to balance the number of contracts.

From there you can roughly break it down as OTT 3rd for Acciari and the Leafs late 1st + 2nd for ROR (also a 4th two years down the line to the Wild for eating some cap).

Nothing too outlandish, although also can't say that the down season from ROR was reflected in the value either. It's closer to what I'd expect he'd fetch as a rental if he was still producing at his more standard rate.

It's a good trade for Leafs.

We better capitalize on the market Henrique likely has.
There is almost always a market for Henrique, 40-50 pts versatile 2-way forwards always have great value for teams looking to add finishing touches to their roster. HFB (not saying you) and some journos put way too much stock in picks and prospects.

You think Henrique can command what ROR just received?
Henrique has out performed RoR…. By a lot the last 2 seasons.

He prob won’t get as much as ROR due to that conn smyth… but I don’t think a 1st + prospect, or 2nd + better prospect is out of the window.

Hell I’m hoping for something like

Good forward prospect
2nd(condition 1st) if team goes to conference finals

Carolina, oilers, devils, jets, stars can all meet that price (bruins to a lesser extent, really only have 1 forward that meets it, and doubt they move him)

Not worried about draft pick too much, hoping we can get a near ready nhl prospect/player that can help next year.

We have plenty of assets/picks and more to add at deadline to move up throughout the draft

ROR is still an elite 2 way center with playoff pedigree that teams are willing to overpay for. He had 58 points last year so it’s not like he’s 4 seasons removed from good production. There’s been some poor puck luck involved in his season this year according to the metrics. I think his value SHOULD be higher than a player like Henrique based on what he’s accomplished.

But Henrique should get a nice haul in his own right

Pretty much

Statistically I think Henrique is better player over last 2 seasons…. And you get him for an extra year.

But people were always going to go high on ROR due to his playoff history
