Teams have their list and can either trade or select the player. They can always trade another player on their current roster. Right now we pick 5th. and our defense sucks, so do you thing we are going to pick a D this draft?
It depends upon how highly they regard Rhinebacher IMO. I haven't looked at any tape, so I don't know. Are there two or three D ranked in the top 10 this year? The other option is trading down in order to get 3 first round picks in this supposedly deep draft.

I truly hope we don't pick a Dman inside the top 5, or top 10 for that matter.

I went and spent the last two nights watching as much as I could about Reinbacher and I just don't see #1 potential, and since I don't see it, I can't take him within the top 10.

From 12-20 sure, at that range, clearly he should be within the top 20, don't know about top 10 though.

I'm looking for someone like Power/Jiricek/Seider if I'm picking a Dman within the top 10...guys that can dominate on both ends of the ice.

Don't think that Reinbacher fits the bill, so I'm picking him 10-20...he would be great with the Ottawa pick.

I’ll watch a few more Tri City games (I’ve seen a bunch over the last two years) but I still haven’t figured out why Dragicevic doesn’t get more credit. I feel like he’s really undervalued. I’ve been hyping him for over a year. And I read all of the criticisms but I just don’t really see those negatives when I watch him play. Not to that degree anyway.

I agree...and most of the lists I've seen has him the top of the 2nd round, which I think would be great for us really. Hindsight would allow us to pick a forward with the first two selections and then Dragicevic with our early 2nd rounder.

There's no chance that Dragicevic slides to say two of the draft. He's a solid option at 13 OA.
Some teams will have him top 5. Some teams will have him 38th. It doesn't matter what we as fans say or think, GM's will listen to either their own guts or their scouting department more than anything else.

There's always- and I mean always- a difference in opinion between those two groups and what the consensus is.

Moser, Hayton, Doan, Lamoreaux, all of those guys went differently than the consensus. Moser was rated like 50 picks above where we took him. And there were other GM's (reportedly) who had him close to where we took him. Chychrun was the opposite. Remember when we passed on Zadina and took Hayton out of left f***ing field instead? I was furious. He wasn't on any of our radar when we took him.

In 2015 when we took Strome over Marner there were plenty of people who liked the pick a lot more. I was reading the draft lottery thread a few days ago. Nobody thought we would take Marner. Had just been injured that season too. People thought we would take the most boring option of Hanifin.

Last year I thought there was no way we were going to pass on Wright. I thought Wright was going 1st. Then he falls to 4th right past our pick.

We can talk about who we want and do our rankings and mock drafts all we want, at the end of the day GMBA is gonna listen to some scout gush about some 6'9 forward who skates like the wind and has a shot like a howlitzer, watch some game footage in January, and make up his mind right then and there to pick him. He won't even be aware of it until the final draft meeting where his gut feeling says "this guy" to him, but it'll happen.

It’s what makes this interesting. I absolutely love it.

Boy, that Honzek sure is a lot like Slafkovsky isn’t he? Very similar out there, IMO. Of course, Slafkovsky was doing on the big stage and against men, while Honzek looks like that against kids in the WHL. I guess that’s why Slafkovsky went 1st and Honzek will likely go in the teens. But Honzek is really impressive. Silky playmaking, really good vision, sneaky stick, and he moves really well for a big guy. Very much like Slafkovsky.

but you have such a strong opinion about who to take at our selection?
We have no idea where we are picking for one thing, and besides Bedard, I have no idea who to pick as I do not follow these kids.

He’s not going to offer anything productive, only destructive. No new ideas, only criticisms of other ideas. Never and alternative idea in its place. It’s exhausting and honestly sad.
How can I offer anything productive when I don't follow these kids. The only statement I made was that teams probably will take a player for position rather than BPA in the second or third round, not before. If that is destructive or a criticism in your mind, so be it.

If they do, it will be BPA on BA's list.

There are six guys I’d be very happy to get with our 1st pick: Bedard, Benson, Carlsson, Fantilli, Michkov, Smith. And there are 12 guys I’m eying for that 2nd pick: Barlow, Danielson, Dragicevic, Dvorsky, Honzek, Leonard, Moore, Reinbacher, Ritchie, Sale, Wood, Yager.

So assuming our first pick is Top 6 and our second pick is Top 18, there should be a kid at each pick that’s on my list. Probably the Yotes won’t actually take that kid but that’s okay. They’re better at this than me. Haha.

I agree with this...I think I'd be ok with any of the selections in that group
Some are less appealing that others. A little scary in some cases. And there are a couple of other names I could be sold on (maybe Heidt or some of the Russians). But overall, I think that’s a good group. And I think Geekie isn’t necessarily like a huge cut above the majority of those guys. I think he’s kinda in the mix, more or less.

I wish I could get a true WHL expert to rank Savoie and Geekie and Korchinski against Danielson, Dragicevic, Heidt, Honzek, and Yager.
