Smith also shies away from going inside at times. But he’s so talented. I’m a big fan. I’ve got him him sixth. Reminds me somewhat of Zegras maybe?
Bedard is out of the question, would we be able to move up top two to four if we bundle the Ottawa pick at say 13th and ours at say 6th? Or are we smarter to keep those picks?

Wonder if that is allowed? I honestly have no idea??
I thought you can only make contact with a player at the combine? The NHL might have some information that they would make available to all teams.

It depends on BA's whiteboards. I don't think those two picks alone would get it done, but maybe those two plus a couple 2nds would work. But it would have to be a must-have player at the target spot to convince Armstrong to pull the trigger. If he feels like the two players available at 6 and 13 (in your scenario) are at least 80% of the guy at 4OA, quantity wins out over quality.

you can talk to the player.

I have a family friend who is a draft pick of an NHL team. I have seen teams come down to chat with the father at WHL games his draft year to get to know the family as well. That's part of the process.

What you can't do is test them. Don't go to a gym with them and put them through a workout. that's when you lose draft picks.

Lol at that moment. Mr. Chayka trying to outsmart everyone once again but failing miserably.

The first round of the 2023 NHL Draft is loaded with elite forwards, led by the quartet of Connor Bedard, Adam Fantilli, Matvei Michkov, and Leo Carlsson.

We have Cooley, Keller, Schmaltz and Guenther as scoring forwards. I really wouldn’t mind Reinbacher w one of our picks. Our GAA sucks. Our SAA sucks worse.

I want BPA.
Sure. That's great in theory, and when one player is demonstrably better than another - Marner v Storme for instance. In practice, players are often clumped together as far as "best player". That's when need takes over. Otherwise you get a very unbalanced team, with great talent in only one position.

Teams have their list and can either trade or select the player. They can always trade another player on their current roster. Right now we pick 5th. and our defense sucks, so do you thing we are going to pick a D this draft?

Some here want position, not BPA.

In general, I support drafting BPA. However, not always easy to assess between positions. Was MAF the best player in 2003? Hard to argue that the pick didn't pay off for Pitt, Or maybe they were just lucky that the following year they drafted Geno and the year after that Sid.

Not necessarily. Just consider how many variations there is in the projected top 10. Not everyone agrees who is BPA because they could all justify being there.
True. Every GM has their own list, and I believe most times they take BPA on their list, it doesn't mean they have the same players as another team. But as you say, there are circumstances that can change their mind. Look at last year when we moved up for Geekie. I think there were a few eyebrows there, but BA had him as BPA.

Who do you have in your top 10 Jake?
What does that have to do with anything?

It's a question. This is a prospect website. Have you started to formulate who in your mind are the obvious BPA's in a top 10-15 range

He’s not going to offer anything productive, only destructive. No new ideas, only criticisms of other ideas. Never and alternative idea in its place. It’s exhausting and honestly sad.
There’s enough free content out there for people to develop opinions about players; especially in the top 10.

Take Will Smith. Supremely talent. Probably more talented than Savoie of last year. 1st line skills. I don’t like the player at all (much like Savoie). Cherry picker. Poor work ethic. He is going to drive a coach nuts because you are going to have to force him to completely change the ay he plays the game. Will he be as effective? I say i like other players better who I don’t think they have to work as hard to adapt their game. Write ups say he could be a top 5 player. How far is too far to drop this player? Savoie 9?
