Bedard is Yzerman. He was/is 5'11"
Bedard would be a dream, but our D and our goaltending there is absolutely nothing. Chych will be gone as well as Ghost, with not much in the pipeline as of today. Moser is the only one of the younger one's that look like good NHL caliber talent. That looks much like the road that the Oilers and TO are using. Also, it takes longer for D to mature than forwards, so we will have to trade and pay big bucks for a very good Dman or two, or three. A Chych scenario in reverse.

I actually WANT Fantilli.

In a couple years the team could be icing
COOLEY
FANTILLI
HAYTON
GEEKIE
MCBAIN
JENIK
SMITH

Lots of options to trade for D prospects.

Dudas and Deveroux are unknowns so far but don't discount their upside entirely. I think the focus on the prospect could be on D in a return for Chychrun. Regardless, our lack of proven D prospects in our pipeline should not impact who we select in 2023. You take the franchise superstar/generational talent period.

I don't think Smith or McBain will be with the team.

After this draft. We need a D prospect back in any Chych deal, I hope anyways, but still a very weak D. Buffalo, Detroit and Ottawa all have at least one high end D player and/or prospect. You build from the net out, and that is our weakest position. I don't think our double D's excite many.;)

Oh, I agree. I think they are trade bait.
I doubt they fetch anything.

I don't know. I think you should listen to the Draft Analyst's report on Dudas. He absolutely loves the guy.

Lamoureaux is a 6'8" D who can skate. If all he is capable of being is a 3rd pairing D. He's a 3rd pairing D who if he hits you he could put you through the glass. And good luck getting around him with that reach and skating stride. The real question mark is whether or not there is any offense there but for him to be effective that may not be a necessity. He's 4-5 years away though. So it's going to be a wait regardless for him.

If Chychrun and Ghost can be turned into 1st rounders, they should target Cameron Allen. It goes without saying that the Chychrun trade also needs to bring in a prospect with at least second pairing potential.

Get lots of second paring potential guys with a potential 2D in Allen, then you target Kiviharju in next year's draft

Not likely we get a first for ghost. I think a 2nd is the best we can hope for.

Ghost is looking good so far. He was top 10 in goals for dmen last season, and if he gets hot could be looking desirable to many teams at the TDL. A 1st is possible in my completely unbiased opinion. :D

Just scored again. I don't think a late 2nd is enough any more.

I agree, a 1st seems out of reach but what if we take a bad contract back or add a 3rd?
Maybe two picks total. 2nd and 4th would be something I could see.

Get a 1st for Ghost
Get a 1st for Ingram
Get a 1st for Dauphin (Reining AHL player of the week)
Get a 1st for a Cactus

Use that capital to secure the top 5 picks in the draft when you include ours, and then BOOM.

The Rebuild Begins...again.

I think Ghost could return a 1st for sure.
If there's a cup contender with a struggling PP, it would be hard to find a better remedy than Ghost. He's not the bruiser that most GMs want to add at the deadline but he's a better hockey player than any of those bruisers.

Allen may go too high, an almost better alternative could be Caden Price. Hockey IQ off the charts. Check the footage in the tweet, Geekie in there somewhere.

Been watching a lot of this draft class, haven't been feeling great so haven't been writing up posts but I'll start again soon.

This draft is so good that I'm not too worried about how it will go. There are so many can't miss prospects and we'll almost certainly be guaranteed one with our placement.

Like...there are some players I'd be more happy with than others, but there's not a single player in the top 10 I think currently that I'd be unhappy with. The literal only situation I'd be unhappy with is if Michkov gets drafted by us AND doesn't come over for 6 years or doesn't come over at all.

Bedard
Fantilli
Michkov
Carsson
Dvorsky

would be my clear top 5 right now.

Outside of that Sale, Yager, (who I know I'll eat some flack for not including him in the top 5) Zimmer/Cristall/Gauthier and Allen would make up my top 10. I think all of these guys could push for top 5 at some point in the season. This draft is absolutely ripe with Center and forward talent, less so on D but there's still a bunch of very good D and potentially even a goaltender or too. There will be players in the later half of the top 15 who could be going in the top 10 of other drafts.

NDN is quietly having what looks like it might be the best season in history in the J20 Swedish SE league with 1.94 PPG 31 points in 16 games as a 17 year old. I sincerely hope he gets invited to the Swedish team for the world juniors, because it'll give us a lot better ideal of how he stacks up against others with his talent. But his skill level is certainly very high at least, you usually don't see these types of players stick around in these leagues for long but he has a very early birthday and is punching up by a year to most other players.

Zimmer and Cristall, alongside Bedard are leading the WHL in scoring for draft eligibles. Interestingly enough all 3 of Bedard, Zimmer, and Cristall are on pretty shitty teams, at least at the moment. Gauthier is also doing well in the QMJHL but is on an absolutely stacked team with the current leading scorer in the Q as well. Sherbrooke in fact has 3 of the top 10 scorers in the Q on their team. Val'Dor also have 3, and Halifax has 2. I'll be keeping a watch on all of these guys, along with Haltunnen (I'm pretty sure this is spelled wrong but it's 3 am and I don't care to look up the spelling right now) and a few others leading up to the WJC
