This is such an amazing draft class. And I’m glad it’s the last one for which I’m going to be actively cheering for losses. Regardless of lottery luck, this needs to be the last tank season. The team needs to stop intentional Roster sabotage after this.

Just because BA stops being bad “on purpose” doesn’t mean the team will magically get good. They’ll still struggle and still pick early in the first for a while. And that’s ok. And, of course, i’m not talking about trading A+ future assets for win-now players, or anything.

Just that we need to look for opportunities to fill some holes, not intentionally leave them wide open. Look for chances to keep assets that fit and are performing. Look for smart FA signings that other teams might actually want. Take back only cap dumps that don’t totally suck (on-ice, contract aside).

And we need to stop completing gutting the roster every season and starting over with a whole new group. After this season, it’s time to see the team stick together, learn and grow together, and show gradual improvement.

Time to start cheering for wins again after this one.
I think this team is playing fairly decent right now. Once 👻 🐻 is traded along with Ritchie and possibly Chyc, the NHL floor is where we're headed. I kinda hope we bring those former guys back next season to be honest(on reasonable contracts of course).
Cooley should be ready next year, not sure about Geekie or anyone else for that matter(Bedard/Fantilli not included). We should start winning games next season, im hoping for a competitive .500 record. 24-25 season playoffs!

This is the way.

What I don't want to do is what Anaheim just did. They were trending in the right direction last season. Have bluechips in Zegras, Drysdale and MacTavish. They didn't need to go all in or anything, and trading Lindholm was the right call. But know Getzlaf was going to retire I felt like moving Manson and Rakell was a huge step back. Did adding those picks from those trades really help? They also should have been a great candidate for Chychrun, but trade talks disappeared. Now they look terrible and the MacTavish and Drysdale are playing in a pretty bad environment.

We need to continue to sell this year. But next year we need to add the best UFAs who will come over. I don't think we need to trade for a great roster piece next season, but the following season I hope we begin to use assets to acquire pieces that make sense.

We'll still get good picks in '24, '25, and '26. Hopefully just not as good as the year prior haha!

I wouldn't mind winning the lottery 2025 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yep. I almost don't want our lotto luck to get used up this year. We should secure a top 5 pick no matter what. Would much rather move from 7OA or 10OA in 2024 or 2025 to add another huge piece.

I think fans are talking about tanking, but the Coyote's are not. I believe in BA's eyes the rebuild has started and the furthest from his mind is finishing last and picking first. Like BA said, you add good player on top of a good player on top of a good player, and he is doing that. Ingram may be one, same for Timmins then there is Ritchie, Valimaki, Maccelli, Guenther, Moser and Veggie. BA assembled an all star scouting staff so he believes he will find diamonds in the rough. I'm cheering for wins NOW.

Anaheim is rebuilding and Manson is 31, Rakell 29 and I believe was a UFA. Most are talking about trading Ghost, and he is younger than Manson. Anaheim is doing it right.

They didn't mind keeping 33 year old Shattenkirk.

You're right about Rakell though, that was a good move. I don't disagree that this is a good call by the Ducks especially with how good this draft looks. I guess it feels like this is one extra year of really sucking rather than trying to build it back up. Of course they did add Strome and Vatrano in UFA so maybe it's more of the pieces aren't clicking yet.

Maccelli was a Chayka pick. I agree with the rest.

Keep adding good players when they're cheap.
Maybe sell a few more vets if the return is attractive.

McKeen's prelim list came out yesterday.

1. Connor Bedard
2. Adam Fantilli
3. Leo Carlsson
4. Matvei Michkov
5. Brayden Yager
6. Eduard Sale
7. Cal Ritchie
8. Dalibor Dvorsky
9. Will Smith
10. Zach Benson
11. Colby Barlow
12. Matthew Wood
13. Nate Danielson
14. Andrew Cristall
15. Ethan Gauthier

Is their top 15.

This is the most recent draft ranking, besides CS list, and I mostly agree with it. Michkov, Dvorsky, Benson and Cristall are too low for me, while Barlow/Wood/Smith are too high for me.

I don't think I could put a ranking out as a lot of these guys are extremely close for me, but if I had to I'd put them in tiers.

S tier: Bedard, Michkov, Fantilli
A+ tier: Carlsson, Dvorsky, Sale
A tier: Yager, Ritchie, Benson
B tier: Cristall, Gauthier, Barlow
B- tier: Wood, Danielson, Smith

Yep, I'd pretty much kill to get Fantilli at 2 and then Gauthier at 15

I haven't seen any games but it does not sound like Cooley will be ready next year. Most people are saying 1 more year in NCAA.

I'm not convinced about Leonard OR Stramel yet, but they both definitely have top 15, if not potentially top 10 upside.

There is no one on this team I wouldn't trade for a top 5 pick. There's probably not even anyone on this team I wouldn't trade for a top 10 pick. This draft isn't the end all be all, but if we do well in it it will define our team for the next decade.

I’d put Carlsson up one level and also Yager up one level. Wood up two levels. I’m a Cristall skeptic but I’ll wait and see. Hard to argue with that production. But I’d definitely take Wood and Barlow ahead of him if the draft was today. Luckily the draft isn’t today. ;)

If this season is a "disaster" we are looking at a guy like Cal Ritchie or Will Smith? I don't think we are going to sustain our shooting percentage and eventually we will fall in the standings. Other teams are tanking but they didn't get the press like we did to start the year.

I like Yager as much or more than any of Slafkovsky, Cooley or Wright. So even if we strike out in the lottery (yet again) we could still get a very nice piece. But that pushes out the rebuild more. We can’t stop tanking then.

Nobody likes tanking, but we're here, so we really gotta "git er dun" this time.

We gotta finish bottom 3. Preferably dead last, so we can move to the next phase of the rebuild which is an upward trajectory and be in the best shape we can be for it.
There are at least two but probably four franchise changers in this one. Michkov is probably not a great fit for us. So we really need to be Top 3. Only way to guarantee a top 3 pick is to finish 32nd.

How far down would the Coyotes have to pick before you choose the longer term Michkov?
