Is BA taking a kid 6th overall that he’s never met? Are Plandowski and Jankowksi advocating that he take such a risk when they’ve never met him? When was the last time any of these three saw Michkov play a game in-person?

I’m pretty skeptical that they’d consider drafting Michkov at 6th.
Valid points, we won't know until it happens, I think that if one player was worth taking the gamble on, it would be Michkov.

I also believe we will try to get one more first by packaging some picks or trade up to #7-11 range with the 12OA, where you can get another player with less risk.

Do me know this as fact?

I ended up with this:

#6 - C Will Smith
#15 - RD David Reinbacher (traded back from #12 with NAS to get another 2nd rd)
#38 - RD Maxim Strbak
#47 - G Michael Hrabal (acquired from above NAS trade)
#55 - C Charlie Stramel (used some picks to trade up)
#72 - LD Jakub Dvorak
#134 - LW Tyler Peddle
#160 - RD Matteo Mann
#162 - C Cole Knuble
#166 - G Samuel Urban

It's a fun tool. I'm sure many of you have used it.

As far as I know Michkov hasn’t left Russia and only Russian NHL area-scouts are in Russia this season. It would be unusual for a GM to go to Russia. But generally these kids would normally be available at international events and the combine. And general head scouts and scouting directors would see a kid like this live many times. This year most or all have not.

Bill has overseen five 2nd round picks.

Four of them have been euro and one of them was Doan.

All of them, according to public lists, were reaches (I'm not complaining, I think they were good gambles).

I bet we go with Strbak at 38, given the rumours that Coyotes have shown lots of interest in him. Otherwise another unheralded euro.
I worry Strbak will go earlier than expected.

In a less talent filled draft I would be tempted to root for Michkov at 6. This draft is loaded with talent, so let some other team take the risk on Michkov.

If we look at RD that are >= 6'1 then Strbak might be 5th on the list.

Reinbacher
Willander
Dragicevic
Bonk
Strbak

I hope we get one of these guys. Strbak in particular seems like a fit with our draft habits.

I find it really odd that he would commit to attending the draft but not the combine, especially in his case. Everyone would rather see him do interviews and testing than show up to hear his name called, if he couldn't attend both events. Teams must be disappointed, I am.

The kid with the most questions is doing the least to answer them. These other kids are busting their asses to sell themselves. His draft stock is falling and he seems complacent about it, making conspiracy easy. Weird stuff!

I'd most likely still take him at 12, but definitely not at 6. And I'm toeing the line of yay vs. nay even at 12.

Then you would be crying bloody murder if Michkov turns out to be another Bedard type player and the pick we chose is another Hayton. What happens happens and I'm sure BA has much more info on this kid and his circumstances than we will ever know, so I say let the chips land where they may. I think he will be gone by our pick listening to all the chatter out there.

Maybe him being under contract does not allow him to participate in the combine.

Seems odd and suspicious to me too, if that's really the case. Can't be tested but can be drafted? Has there been KHL contracts like this in the past? We already know the length of his commitment to the KHL, why would they keep him from coming to the combine, knowing these terms?

Edit: It feels like he's either under a gag order, or afraid to speak, or he just doesn't give a crap about where he is picked. None of which are good. The only person not talking about Michkov is Michkov.

I got:

6 - Ryan Leonard
12 - Brayden Yager
38 - Maxim Strbak
70 - Jordan Tourigny
72 - Dylan MacKinnon
81 - Denver Barkey
88 - Coulson Pitre
102 - Brady Cleveland
134 - Paul Fischer
160 - Yegor Rimashevsky
162 - Frantisek Dej

I have no idea if this draft is any good, but I like the first four picks a lot.

I’d take him ahead of Bonk no problem.

He is allowed to go to the combine. They happen every year. Russians are there every year. It’s the war and all the nonsense.

I was going to predict Leonard at 6 and Willander at 12. I was convincing myself these are our targets. I still think that’s who we want. But I think each will go one pick before ours. The summer of shite continues.
Hearing Montreal wanting Leonard is disappointing. Hes my pick this draft for sure. Maybe we trade 12 to 11 and take Myers...and then Willander.

Have Russians participated in the combine while under contract with the KHL? Why is he coming over for the draft if the war is the reason he missed the combine?

Russians weren't invited to the combine. NHL sending a signal on its virtues. Russians can still be drafted though.
