I'm becoming more concerned about the lack of high-end D prospects, I guess they could always trade some forwards for D. But right now I don't see any top pair defenders in the system
Only 1 D rated in top 15 in 2023. Depends if u believe in Lamoureaux and/or Duda as high end pieces. Too early for me to sign off on that opinion.

This year and next are big years for Soderstrom. He has shown okay progress so far and has had his share of challenges with season shutdowns, etc. But there is no denying he was picked by the old guard so we likely aren't as attached to him. I think best case scenario he has a strong year in Tucson and is up with the Coyotes around the deadline after some bodies get moved out.

Bedard lead the WHL in shots last season. G averaged 5.25/gp (as an aside, Guenther was 3rd in shots in the WHL, and averaged 5.01/gp). Also, Bedard was 4th in scoring with 100pts (and Guenther was 6th with 91pts).

Crouse-Cooley-Guenther

I really don't know why the Pats haven't done more to capitalize on Bedard. Supporting cast is still not very good. Are they not aware that he is not back in junior a year from now?

Ownership in Regina is clueless. They are trying to get a new arena and owner doesn’t want to move Bedard. He also doesn’t advertise much if any and the Pats are second rate compared to cfl football. Pats suck today because they went all in the year they hosted Memorial Cup. They gutted their prospects and picks and never fully rebuilt before winning Bedard lottery.

I just can't see either as a true #1 without some miraculous development in the near future. Lamoureaux is all defense no offense, and Duda seems all offense and no defense. Not many 1D out there who are miserable on half the ice, but I could see both as a 2D who does well supporting a true 1D.

Draft and development. U can teach defense.

D is definitely teachable, I'll be much happier to see Duda in the AHL where he can learn on the smaller ice under the Coyotes staff instead of whatever he's learning in Russia.

Of all the rumored teams and possible returns I feel like Zellweger is the only name out there that really helps us with that high-end D prospect problem.

Mintyukov might end up being the better pro, at least in terms of 5 on 5, PK and defending in general.

If BA and his team are high enough of Mintyukov that they would have taken him ~ 10th overall, and they’re high on Clang, I think I’d honestly take a package of those 2 players + 2023 2nd + ‘24 or ‘26 2nd (in other words, no 1st rounder).

I completely agree that adding some high end D depth is priority #1. JC is a top pairing guy and if they think Mintyukov will be one as well, I’m perfectly fine with that deal.

 Shows how much I watch these kids. Doing it last year is even more impressive. Special kid no doubt.
Imagine if he had anyone around him. Regina is a bad team devoid of talent outside of Bedard. Their second best player (Howe) is a year younger.

Or the absolute haul they'd get in a trade. They'd get 10+ assets in return.

Apparently owner won’t even consider it. It’s insane because they are a borderline team to make the playoffs considering the weakness in their roster.

How good is this draft? Colby Barlow was just named Captain of the Owen Sound Attack as a 17 year old draft eligible. Kid is 6’2, 200lbs, skates like the wind (just gallops like a horse), he’s coming off of a 35g in 66gp rookie season (including 5g in 7gp in the playoffs). Dude had 7 game winners in the regular season and averaged over three shots per game. Until he got into the playoffs where he averaged FIVE shots per game.

And this kid is ranked FIFTEENTH on Bob’s preliminary list.
