SKA has already played five games and Michkov is listed on their roster but I can't find any stats on him. I know the KHL isn't a development league but he's got to be good enough to make that team and earn some minutes. Maybe St. Petersburg starts him in their VHL or MHL affiliate but he should be above that. I can't find anything on eliteprospects or hockeydb. It's a little unusual for a player of his caliber. Anyone have a good source for prospect news/stats from Russia?

Remember, he got leveled and I'm sure is out w/a concussion.

Pats season opener against Moose Jaw. Bedard vs Yager. 2 of the guys we could be in the mix for. Yager will impress you and is worth watching. CHLTV has you covered.

I’m a huge Yager fan. Energizer bunny with an absolutely deadly shot. He gets it off quick, under cover, hard, and precise. High-end shooter. But he’s a right-shot, two way, center who doesn’t take shifts off, skates well, and is good positionally, and hounds pucks. Coach’s dream.

I’m excited to see Ryan Leonard off to a hot start. He’s probably my favorite kid remaining on that USNTDP team. Works his butt off, great skater, and has enough skill to be dangerous. I read someone compare him to Joel Farabee and I think that’s a good comp. I loved Farbee in his draft year, too. Some Cogliano, and Geoff Sanderson, and Grabner vibes in there too.

I’d be thrilled to end up with Yager with our pick and manage to get Leonard with an extra 1st.

There are just a ton of kids in this draft I like a lot, though.

Is Yager this years version of Marner? Except as a 1C with elite hockey sense?

I'm assuming you don't mean by size comparison but rather play style?

For centers, he reminds me of a zippier Seguin. More emphasis on his shot than playmaking like Seguin. But he doesn't glide like Seguin, and has a much more waterbug style of play with space like Logan Couture.

Size and skill combo. Not positional bias. I found during Marner’s draft year that i wanted to like Strome more simply because of position and not necessarily what i was seeing on ice. My final list had Marner ahead of Strome but that analysis took longer than it should have.

Marner was more of a dispy doodler. High skill water bug. Darting all over making pretty plays. Don’t get me wrong, I was a huge fan. He just oozed high end skill.

I think Yager had more meat and potatoes to him than Marner. He’s bigger and more direct. More of a two way player. More of a hound.

Maybe somewhere along the continuum of:

Henrique—>Larkin—>Stamkos

???

I’m bad at comps. Really.

Larkin is a very good one but I like Yager's upside and shot much more, which puts him more in that Stammer territory besides the size, as of now.

Dare I say he is Spezza-sih?

Yeah I don't see the same east-west maneuvering of the ice that I did with Marner. I think Marner and Yagar skate very similar though. Very upright in his legs and torso but has a small hunch in the shoulder area. Both constantly shuffle their feet and their skating is somewhat aggressive and their posture makes them look bigger than they are.

This clip for instance looks like Marner

And for reference:

But this clip shows his shot off and where the Seguin comparison fits for me, especially the second goal.
