Remember when we thought we wouldn’t have to pass on Wright? Then we had to make that choice anyway?

What happens if another franchise with no chance at signing Michkov ends up 2nd and we end up 3rd? They’ll just take Fantilli, and we’ll have to decide on the 3rd guy or Michkov. Just like Wright.

We need to be hoping that Chicago picks 2nd. That’s the key. A team that has no issues with Russians in a city that Russians want to go to. Or maybe even Philly.

Doubtful. Gotta be top 2 to gaurantee Fantilli or Bedard. I don't think any team actually wants to wait years for a player unless Michkov is way better than whomever else they could get at that spot. Might drop further than 3.

Armstrong doesn't strike me as the type that would risk a #2 or #3 pick on Michkov. Especially with the other available options 1-5.
Could be Bedard is the best draft prospect since Matthews. Could be Michkov is the next best draft prospect since Matthews. It’s a scary scenario.

The only way this is easy is if we pick 1st overall. So let’s just do that. :)

If AZ has three first rounders in this draft, I run up there and take Michkov.

If the #2 - #5 overall pick is all AZ has, I pass on Michkov and take someone who makes an impact sooner than 2026, even if that impact is in Tucson.
Even then, there looks to be 3 or 4 impact players at the top of the draft. One of those extra picks would have to be pretty high to justify drafting Michkov.

Of course, knowing Coyote luck it will be like the 1990 fab 5 draft:
Nolan
Nedved
Primeau
Ricci
Jagr (%$&^** Pens luck)

Montreal ends up drafting 5th, gets Michkov and he leads the league in goal scoring for the next decade.

I think the Michkov situation isn't as complicated as it might seem. If he tells Bill that he would be proud to be drafted by the Coyotes, and he seems genuine, then you draft him. If he wants something else then you don't draft him.

The contract doesn't concern me one bit. He'll come over fully adjusted to playing against men and he'll be a star from day one.

Agree. Bill will know if he wants to come here or not. I don't have a problem with the length of the KHL contract either. Like Kaprizov, he'll make a huge impact the day he arrives. I can't wait to follow him this season. Very good chance he's a Coyote, but passing on Fantilli would suck balls. Like rt said, let's just win Bedard.

Exactly. Bedard is the way, here.

Wow he looks fantastic. Slippery, smooth skater. Always hard to tell foot speed on the big ice but he is cleanly beating defenders. He kind of reminds me of what we wanted Strome to become. Lots of Schieffele to his game from these clips.
The scary thing is he may not be in my top 10

He played most of last season in the SHL already as a 16/17 year old which is nuts. He put up 2pts/GP in the J20 league. And he’s like a big 6’3-6’4 Baby Huey type.

Scheifele sucks at defence. Carlsson does not.

Definitely was alluding to his offensive game but didn't realize Scheifele's two-way game has dropped off. Always thought he was pretty decent at both sides but admittedly haven't watched him much since the 2019 season.

Is Sean Couturier a good comparable? Maybe some Backstrom? I don't want to through out any Bergeron comparisons.

I'm struggling to make a comparison about him just yet due to how he's still evolving so rapidly. He was always a highly touted prospect within ÖHK since his arrival in 2020, but it was during 2021 where he really started to blow up. He skates really well, even if you don't even consider that he's 6'3. His two-way play is still evolving but he makes an effort every shift into backchecking.
I've heard some say he and Fantilli are similar, but I haven't watched enough of Fantilli to say that's accurate. The rumor of Fanilli being a 'bull' on the ice doesn't quite fit Carlsson, even if he doesn't seem scared to use his frame.
I'll be able to watch about 50-60% of all his home games this coming season (work hinders me from going to all), but the fact that he didn't look out of place at all last season in SHL should say a lot on its own. Something Dvorsky did at times in Allsvenskan (second tier).

If we're using Couturier and Bäckström as the two to choose from, Carlsson is more Bäckström. He's a pacy playmaker.

Awesome thanks for the breakdown and don't be a stranger around here when the season gets going.
