Couldn’t the NHL just put in a very similar tournament and take this away from the IIHF/TSN? Like a LIV Golf kind of situation. Some way to free us from how stupid this tournament has become?
At least the tournament is in Halifax and not Edmonton (again). This one will be well attended.

The next WJC appears to also be in Canada. Might be another fiasco with the incoming flu season.
It is in Halifax at least, not Edmonton. Part of the issue was having tournaments in Edmonton back to back to back with the third one in the summer.

What's stupid about it? No one on earth does more for this tournament than TSN.

No none does more for Canada than TSN. Don’t get that twisted.
Most wouldn't know this tournament existed if TSN didn't put so much money and emphasis into it. They televise almost every game and that turns up the spotlight for all teams. Of course they do it for Canada but every player, team, and fan benefits from that.

The whole thing is rigged for Canada from top to bottom and it’s gross.

How do you figure that? Divisions are made from last year's finish spots. The Officials are from all over the world.

It’s too early for rankings, I think. But who are some of your “favorites”? Not necessarily the best players, but the players you like the most?

For me, it’s Fantilli and Yager at the top. Also like Sale and Stramel. A bit later it’s Ryan Leonard, Kalan Lind and Lukas Dragicevic.

Yager
Bensen
wood
Ritchie

Fantilli is a ton of fun to watch because he’s basically a 3rd Tkachuk brother out there. Big, skilled, and just absolutely nasty. Really a throw-back, power center type.

Yager I love because he’s got an exceptional motor, he never stops buzzing, he’s a hound, and his shot absolutely deadly. He’s just the kind of center I like. Well, him and Fantilli.

Nobody really compares to these two for me, in terms of personifying my own preferences and biases. Bedard basically plays like he’s got cheat codes enabled. And he’s incredible. But when I list out in bullet points what I like to see in players, I get Fantilli and Yager as my two main types.

Yep, hoping for Bedard/Fantilli/Yager

Leo Carlsson is my dark horse player that I might want...will be following him this year for sure.

What's beautiful about this situation is I can't see us being better than 5th worst, and that's a huge stretch. So at worst we are picking 7th.
Bedard
Michkov
Fantilli
Yager
Benson
Leo Carlsson
Dvorsky

If these 7 names keep progressing and have impressive seasons this year they may all be better prospects than Cooley or at least right around the same level. This is a win-win-win year for us to stink. Last season got a little dicey because picking 5th had a huge fall off (I would not have been happy with Gauthier after the last season we had).
