Chris Peters has us taking Leonard over Michkov....Im probably in the minority here that is ok with this.
I don't think it's a minority opinion honestly. There is a very real risk with Michkov when it comes to the Coyotes.

Trade down then? Someone would pay a lot if this scenario unfolds and he is still exposed for the 6th pick! Washington could offer Chesley and McMichael, StL has 3 1sts...
Trading down isn't a good idea when they already have a pick at 12.

I think the tiers in this draft go:

1-2 (Bedard, Fantilli)

3-6 (Carlsson, Michkov, Smith, Leonard)

7-12 (Benson, Dvorsky, interchangeable names).

Dropping out of the second tier moves you into the less exciting third tier. Just take the guy you love at 6. You're still getting a great player no matter what, with a pick coming up shortly after. If anything, trade 12 to move back.

I disagree. Moving back 2 spots because Washington wants Michkov badly and willing to give up Chesley and 40th would be worth it. Leonard, Dvorsky, or Benson would still be there.

...and so many mock drafts have us picking him 6th.
That’s because so many people just copy everyone else’s lists in my opinion. And they hope their favourite team who picks below us get a better player.

Side thought .. it’s interesting how the rankings have changed . I still think it is :

Bedard

Fantilli / Michkov/ Carlson

Smith / Leonard / Dvorsky / Benson

anyone picking a D here obviously going for need rather than BPA

Talent wise they say Michkov is almost at the level of Bedard who is said to be a generational talent, so why in hell would you trade down if a player of this talent falls in your lap? His timetable to come over fits the Coyote rebuild perfectly.

I think it would cost you #6 in '23 and 1st rounder in '24 to move up those 2 spots...which is what I would ask for...obviously that would be too rich for me...but that is what they would ask for.

Yea too rich for me too. I'd counter with #6 in '23 and their choice of any two to three 2nds over the next 3 years (Still can't get over that we have 4 second round picks in each of the next two drafts after this year's, that's wild.)

Who do you covet in that #4 slot?
Personally, I have Michkov as the #2 prospect in this draft. As mentioned earlier in the thread, his timeline for arrival vibes well with ours, and for those reasons, that's who I'd be after.

That said, I'm content to stay at 6 if we can't get up to 4, and then I'd take Leonard. But if we've got a shot to go get MM, have to do our due diligence.

I also have MM at 2 OA.
I think the there's a good chance that we can get him at 6 OA.
