If we pick at 10 and Reinbacher is there, I think that would be the play. This is a very deep draft for frowards.

Wouldn’t mind the pick, good prospect.

At the same time, the only forwards we’ve drafted top ten this rebuild are Ras, Zadina, Raymond, and Kasper. I’d really prefer a bit more investment there.

Same, but aside from Ryan Leonard (who might be gone before we pick anyway) I don't think there's any forward prospect that looks like they've got bonafide 1st line upside without having a high probability of busting.

Also I'm higher on Reinbacher than most here. I think he could become a Pietrangelo or McAvoy level defenseman. At worst he's likely a solid 2nd pair guy.

Is it legal for NHL teams to buy a KHL player out of their contract? I know Carolina was attemping to do it with Alexander Nikishin but haven't seen anything regarding that since February.
I don't know, things look FUBAR. Take case-Fedotov for example.

If i had a high pick, i would stay away from Michkov. Too much uncertainty.

Sabres drafted Neuchev last year and got him to sign a 3 year deal with them just within this last week.

Hell, we could land Benson according to this list.

Interesting take with Danielson at 6. That seems rich to me. I go back and forth about whether I think Danielson has the skill to elevate his play in the NHL, so I’d be a little underwhelmed with him at 9 but I’d accept it. I like Danielson enough. I’d feel like we left better options on the table though.

Is Edstrom really ranked at 18? I was hoping to get him with our 73 pick. Did the U18’s make that much of a difference? Even Whalberg will be tough to get in the second now

Yep.

More exposure for these players, they both performed well, they will move up lists.

Hoping we stay away from Russian players, that situation is getting worse everyday. We have some huge draft capital - maybe it’s time to package some picks jump up and take a difference maker to add to this rebuild.

Situation was way worse , when they drafted Kozlov, Fedorov and Konstantinov. It's all depends what round you take them.

Talking about risky prospects. Why do you think Benson is risky , while Moore is not. We are talking about creativity and hockey IQ. Moore is the best skater on the draft, so what , we didn't keep AA

Moore’s skating, 2-way play and tenacity make him a sure bet to be a 3rd liner At worst. The kid also has a great shot. I don’t think Moore has the high end IQ of other guys ranked in the top 10 but his tools give him a safer floor. I don’t think he’ll be the next Dylan Larkin but maybe Matt Cullen or Todd Marchand?

Benson is ultra talented with the puck but isn’t a burner. Good skater but not great. He’s also really small And not physical as a winger. Also not particularly good in his zone.

I don’t see any version of the NHL where a guy like Benson is a contributing player on a winning team from their 3rd or 4th line. He’s a scorer, but if he can’t be a scorer in the bigs then I don’t think he stays there long. If he can, then Benson could become a guy that gets 70+ points a year. That’s why I say top 6 or bust for him.

What’s the options in Danny Nelson for the USNDP? He is listed at 6’3 205, can play center. Would he be a good wings pick with one of the seconds

I agree with most of this but Benson "not particularly good in his zone"? Interesting, every time I watched him I thought he was one of the best defensive forward in this draft. Haven't watched him in the playoffs though. Also, yeah, it's true he's not physical but he's kind of a pest. He gets in people's faces kinda like Bedard and isn't afraid of anyone.

My personal opinion, but I would be ok with drafting him at 18, so he's a no brainer for me in the second. He'll play in the NHL for sure, he has some upside but maybe not tremendously so, especially compared to the other forwards in this draft but he's the kind of player you win in the playoffs with. Great player.

I never paid attention to Benson simply because he was at4-8 on the most mock draft, but now because some overated US players and Dvorsky move him to our reach.
It seems like Yzerman likes to pick close to NHL ready prospects and probably not going to take Benson. Whoever draft him needs to wait for about 2 years. About Moore , you already said he is not Larkin , not even close. That entire US team played offense only heavily depending on their goalkeeper, actually it would be nice to get him in a second round.

Being willing to backcheck and being good in your zone aren’t the same. It does make me think higher of him than Perreault but I don’t think we’re looking at the next Daniel Alfredsson or Marian Hossa As far as 2 way wingers go.

Got an updated ranking from Bob McKenzie (only a top 12 but I’ll take it)

Now has Smith at #3

For those of you that are lazy -
1. Bedard
2. Fantilli
3. Smith
4. Carlsson
5. Michkov
6. Dvorsky
7. Leonard
8. Benson
9. Perreault
10. Reinbacher
11. Barlow
12. Wood

For red wings fans, if the top 8 goes like this that is the absolute worst case scenario.
9 we have to take Reinbacher here and hope a C falls to 17/18. Seider/Reinbacher on the right side would simply be amazing. Maybe grab Stenberg with our 2nd first rounder.

Any one of Benson, Dvorksy, or Reinbacher is great at 9OA for us.

Ah really, ok I saw him more than backcheck, I saw him pickpocketing many players and thought he was very effective at getting the puck back. I'll try watching him in the finals against Seattle (most likely). That should be a good test lol.

Oh snap! I didn’t know they were playing. They’re in town tonight and tickets are only $36 but I’ve got plans already. :(

EDIT: Seattle thunderbirds vs Kamloops Blazers.

Svechkov with Nashville as well.
Svechkov's KHL contract ended, but is he in the States yet? Svechkov was traded to Spartak during the season and didn't set the sky on fire, so maybe they aren't worried to lose players like him and Neuchev. Whom most likely come back sooner or later.

Fedotov also signed with the Flyers, 2 months before he was arrested.

Dmitri Voronkov signed with Columbus couple days ago, he's still under KHL contract.

I'd still stay away from Michkov, i don't like this situation.
