Thought this was somewhat interesting for those of you that have a sub to The Athletic

-Wheeler guessed based on what he has heard that Michkov might no longer go top 4 and Will Smith might have moved into the top 4
-Wheeler was asked what players ranked outside the top 15 have the most upside and he said Cristall and Nadeau

Oliver Moore at the Islanders pick hmmm?

Hell, we could land Benson according to this list.

Interesting take with Danielson at 6. That seems rich to me. I go back and forth about whether I think Danielson has the skill to elevate his play in the NHL, so I’d be a little underwhelmed with him at 9 but I’d accept it. I like Danielson enough. I’d feel like we left better options on the table though.

I think my target group for 9-11 is Benson, Reinbacher, Dvorsky, Leonard, Wood, Moore, and Yager. Dvorsky is probably my top choice but I’d be happy with any of those guys with our first 1st.

I wouldn't be mad at those choices, but there are a couple I like much more than the others.

After seeing Carlsson with Berggren and Raymond makes me think we need to rig this lotto.

How does one go about rigging a lotto?

it was a joke because everyone here says that yzerman only wants trees.
I know, but still he only gets 🌲🌲🌲 . I don't expect we get Sundin Pellikka.

What would it takes to trade up to number 3. Like Zadina+9 +2 seconds?

I know , just wishful thinking
I would blow up quite a bit of draft capital to get into the top 3 this year. That odds of say Carlsson or Fantilli hitting big is much much higher than multiple guys from our top 5 picks hitting big which would be needed to "lose" such a trade.

Ask New Jersey. Haven't they benefitted the most from the lottery?
I thought I read somewhere that teams that had Taylor Hall on them disproportionately won the lottery. Since he was in Edmonton for a few and then when he went to NJ they won twice and then was on Buffalo for part of the season when they won in '21.

Which means we are rooting for Boston to miss the playoffs so the '24 pick might trigger protection and then we win big with their pick in '25 as Hall is under contract through that year.

We need Chris Ilitch to grease some wheels, mane.

Or find a way to hack the lottery. Can't you do it? Haha.

I wonder how far Michkov drops...

I think he could go very high, or drop a lot. Very hard to say.

Matvei Michkov is ideal for long-time rebuilder, who still has years on the bottom. They can wait him for 3 seasons. He will enter on the league at same time as the other prospects will start to rise the organization from the bottom.

1-3 Anaheim - Pat Verbeek is there, they didn't hesitate to draft Russian at Tampa, definiltely their option.
2-4 Columbus - Kekäläinen won't hesitate drafting russians, but I think they are after another position. Columbus has many many great scoring wingers. Could see Carlsson as their guy. And Columbus is not a real tanker, think they's start rising back to playoffs at next season. Michkov isn't ideal for them.
3-5 Chicago - They will tanks for years. Waiting 3 seasons for Michkov definitely fits in the plan. The waiting period will keep them bad and they can TANK TANK TANK.
4-6 San Jose - They need every kind of pure skill. Also they are entering on tank, this waiting period for Michkov could be a match.
5-7 Montreal - Them in a mess. They need to rebuild that defence.
6-8 Arizona - Think Arizona is gonna rise soon and they have very deep prospect pool. Have no clue about their plans.
7-9 Philadelphia - Organization, which just can't patient. Will skip Michkov.
8-10 Washington - They love Russians. Hard to see Capitals skipping him, if he is still there at #8-#9 overall, when Caps are gonna pick.
9-11 Detroit - Kind of a bad fit for us. We should insert skill sooner on the roster. But definitely the BPA. Big dilemma for Yzerman to think. Maybe he could defect, like in the good old days.... ;)

Think the most realistic and ideal team for Michkov will be Chicago, if they don't win the lottery.

Like they are #3 overall now, could drop 1-2 positions, will need skill and can wait for that 3 years in their becoming TANK.

if I were a fan of any team that passed on Michkov at 4 or later that would be a "boycott the team till the GM is gone" level thing for me, there's just no reasonable defense for not taking him with that kind of talent gap and it would be every bit as bad as something like trading a star player in an awful trade

Yeah, think the same.

But we see this happening all the freaking time.

- three years with zero control on development path
- Putin
- The Russian isolation of the past year is raising Michkov's skills up mythical levels as there is no direct evaluation relative to his peers.

There are very reasonable factors to not jump at Michkov.

Though this blurb from TSN's top 12 is hilarious:

RE: Michkov
Craig Button's NHL comparable: Valeri Kharlamov
