Dalibor Dvorsky is elite, slovakian Sasha Barkov.

Puck protection skills, puck handling, hard shot, defensive awareness, calmness, balance, IQ and during the "playoffs" i started to see that creativity as well. Complete package, exactly the type of player that fit Red Wings identity.

Skating needs bit work but with the right coach that can be fixed in relatively short time. Dvorsky is 3 months older than the youngest player in this draft and his overall game is already in high level.

realistically he's probably not going to be around when the Wings pick

1. Bedard
2-4. Carlsson, Fantilli, Michkov
5-6. Smith, Moore
7-15. Reinbacher, Benson, Dvorsky, Yager, Leonard, Perreault, Sale, Barlow, Ritchie

Dvorsky is right there, it's going to be close. That skating might scare some GMs for not taking him earlier than 7th and Michkov is falling, russian factor is big at the moment. Michkov's ETA is mystery, he's not falling out of top-10 but it might just help our case picking Dvorsky. Someone is going to take him before 9th.
Wallinder - Willander is a perfect D-pair, Left and Right. :D

I'm hearing a lot of evidence and opinion supporting that it did not matter whether Detroit finished with the 5th worst record or the 10th worst. Either way they're getting a shot at a very good prospect, with nearly everybody from 5 to 10 (or even 15) being in the same boat.

So maybe the win the lottery and we all throw a party. Or maybe they just draft a really good player without needing to shoot for the bottom. I can live with either one.

Ohio (OH? IO.)
#9 Leonard or Dvorsky

#18 Perreault or Stenberg

Any thoughts on trading up for Will Smith if he could be had at 5th or 6th spot?

I realize my recency bias is showing.
I started a thread on that very topic a few weeks ago and the board killed it on the first page of comments because someone said "that's unpossible there's no one that would trade a 6th overall for our two first rounders in this draft because the top 6 are so much better than anyone after 6th" and that was considered a devastating mic drop.

Smith probably will be 4or 5. He is very good , but still i stay with 9 and 18

I don't think the gap between Smith and Dvorsky/Moore/Leonard/Perreault is great enough to justify spending too many assets. I'd rather take one of those guys at 9 and hope one falls to 18. If not grab a Stenberg or Willander.

If Stevie and co really like what they see in willander I have a feeling they'll have to take at #17. He's not making it to them in the 2nd round.

That’s kind of how I’m feeling, too.

If Detroit doesn’t get Reinbacher at #9 then I wouldn’t be mad with Willander at #17 and Leonard at #9 if he’s still available.

Consider USA supper line + Moore are familiar with each other and 4 of them projected to be top 15 , still they were not better than Sweden first line who is average second round. OT goal was kinda lucky , besides Sweden just killed Canada 2 times

It’s crazy how many good outcomes there are for
The 9 and 18 OA picks. Like at 9, given how deep this draft is, if anyone takes a D, or if say two D go top 10, we’re left with a great forward. If the first 8 picks are forwards, we get Reinbacher. It’s insane.

Agreed. I can as well.

But I'd be banging pots in the streets.

Detroit to DC to Chicago
I don't want to get anyone from that Canadian team with #9 pick

I've seen a lotta U18 tournaments, they're fickle.

Not saying they're meaningless, but I'm not going to get too high or low either way.

I'd move up for Smith. I think Smith and Kasper gives you the best center prospect depth this team has seen in ages, and I'd pay a premium for that.

That said, I think Smith is likely working himself into a tier where a team who has the opportunity to take him isn't going to move down.

Team USA didn’t have a legit challenge until the gold medal game. I still like Leonard and like Moore a little bit more from this tournament. Still not that high on Smith. I like Perreault but I don’t take him before 17.

I was pretty high on Stenberg to start the year but cooled because he wasn’t that great in J20. But during this tournament and at the Hlinka he showed a lot of talent. I think he’s back in the 1st round discussion solidly. Edstrom was also very impressive but still think he’s an early 2nd round guy.
