Since I know you guys love Swedes, here is a name for you: Anton Wahlberg

6'3 forward playing in the SHL

Late 2nd to 3rd. Might be a steal if later than that. I noticed him in the little ice I saw him get. I don’t think he’s got a ton of skill but worked really hard and wasn’t shy about contact. Maybe a potential grinder. He reminded me a bit of a less skilled Filip Bystedt, for what it’s worth.

Just curious Ogee who is your choice for us if we get the ten spot. Last year I think you had focused in on Kasper long before most did and that looks like a homerun

I’ve been pounding the Reinbacher drum for a while now. I don’t think he falls to Detroit unless a couple of teams start reaching for scorers, which is a possibility in this draft. Before the Hronek trade I figured Vancouver is one team that would target him since they have an organizational weakness and were also eyeing Kasper last year, but we’ll see.

I’ve really come to like Leonard for the reasons mentioned on the last page. He’s very much an Yzerman player. I doubt he lasts past 12 though. Fast, hard hitting, very good shot, and a battler.

My ideal draft would be Detroit swinging a deal to land both.

Other names I like: Jayden Perron, Gabe Perrealt, Noah Dower-Nilsson, David Edstrom, Tom Willander and Andrew Cristall (though his skating might make him fall)

The guy I think has the most steal potential in this draft is Felix Nilsson. Rogle product, great passing, very underrated skill, and is just always in the right place at the right time. His ability to read the play is top tier in this draft. He’s definitely small, even by Swedish junior standards.

Reading some comments on him and people say he has pretty good skill for a bigger guy. He moves pretty good for a big guy too, he creates some breakaway chances. Plus we can play Good Virbrations whenever he scores a goal.

Talked about as an underrated forward prospect here:

I like Reinbacher too.. I always hate the work in progress offensively tag a lot of Detroit players have. I honestly have no idea how much of a work in progress he is with that but at some point I'd like to see a guy who comes in swinging and needs to polish up in other areas. again not saying this is the case for Reinbacher. This team needs to start getting better on the power play and putting the puck in the goal more often lol

I couldn't disagree more. I wish there were advanced stats to show it, but the guy that is getting the puck up ice on breakouts most (at least in the games I've watched) is Leonard. Not Smith or Perreault. He's the 1st touch and helps cycle the puck. Perreault is flashier but I don't think his shot is as good as Leonard's, and his compete level (size be damned) doesn't touch Leonard's.
It is close, but I think Leonard is the second best forward on that team behind Smith. Perreault and Moore are of a similar quality, but I trust Leonard more as an NHL prospect. I think he pops a ton in his +1 year. That being said, in actual practice I expect Moore and Smith both to be taken before Leonard.

I officially don't want Cristall in the first round. I am going to let him show me that I was wrong, but I think we are looking at a super good junior player and a pretty ho-hum NHLer.

I think my issue is I like the players comparable to Leonard from the CHL better.

I see Barlow and Danielson as bigger/better versions of Leonard. Even possibly Ziemmer.

I saw Pronman compare Cristall to Skinner-lite and I kind of see that and how it could cut both ways. I personally think he has the skill to translate to the next level, but I understand those that don't. I think he is a reasonable option at around #10 in this draft, but have never thought he is someone who should be ranked 5/6/7. There is risk there.

If we manage to snag him with one of our 2nds I'll be very happy. Plays a heavy game, and carries himself well offensively.

Huh, interesting to see another Bystedt comparison out there for him.

I'll have to try taking a deeper look through TOTALLY LEGITIMATE feeds at his game. But like I said, I don't think he's going to be a top 6 guy. Maybe a potential Sundqvist type? Though I think David Edstrom is probably closer to that, personally. But if Edstrom is gone and Wahlberg is available? It's worth a swing.

It took me a minute to go from wondering why Detroit would play a Beach Boys song whenever Anton Wahlberg scored, to remembering that Marky Mark (Wahlberg) and The Funky Bunch had a song with the same name.

Yep. I'm officially old.

I agree on Cristall. He's a guy you take if your main options are off the board. The swing on offense is tempting but the meh skating gives me pause

Are you taking Danielson over Leonard if you don't think Danielson is a center (or has a reasonable possibility of being a center) at the NHL level? I think things are really close between Leonard, Barlow and Danielson and I would probably be happy with any of them (even without knowing what is on the board) especially with the NYI pick. All could be really good, complimentary players who can contribute offensively at the NHL level. Of the projected mid-round guys the only one I would preference over this lot is Honzek who I think has the most upside of them.

I can understand the Skinner lite comparison, but I remember Skinner being a very sound technical skater at the same age even though he wasn't super explosive. I would consider Ziemmer, but not in the 1st round with his skating (same with Musty...and not because of the video clip someone posted earlier).

Especially when you consider the gap between now and Marky Mark's version is far longer than the gap between the Beach Boys' and Marky Mark...
