If we draft Danielson at 9, and right after Yzerman does his NHL network interview and says "we believe he has untapped offensive potential" I will be sold. An upside offensive winger should be available at 17.

Dont get me wrong, we take Dvorsky or Moore at 9, and I will be sold, or anybody else really for that matter. I have full confidence this management group will draft well with these first two picks.

Danielson does have nice hands and vision.

My concern with him is he looks like he is just gliding around out there. He never seems to be putting his foot in the ice and getting low in his stance to find an extra burst. Usually looks like he is out for a casual skate with friends.

Just an observation. I do see the skill and potential. He is tough to rank. Would probably be happy if we called him at 17. But at 9, there are a couple guys I could not pick him in front of.

40+41+42 gives you a better chance of finding an elite talent than trading up into the 20s
Something I have found quirkily interesting is that from 2010 to 2017 as often as not you would be better off with the best 3rd round pick than the 3OA

2010 -- 3OA--Gudbranson. 3rd round--Gudas or Rust
2011 -- 3OA --Huberdeau. 3rd round -- Trocheck
2012 -- 3OA --Galchenyuk. 3rd round -- Parakyo or Pelech
2013 -- 3OA -- Drouin. 3rd round -- Guentzal, Pesce, Buchnevich, Duclair, or Bjorkstrand
2014 -- 3OA --Draisaitl. 3rd round -- Point
2015 -- 3OA -- Dylan Strome. 3rd round -- Cirelli
2016 -- 3OA --Dubois. 3rd round -- Adam Fox
2017 -- 3OA -- Heiskanen. 3rd round --Geekie

The only clear wins for 3OA are 11, 14, and 17--and 14 is pretty darn close. 3rd round is clear in 10, 13, and 16.

As I said it is quirky and doesn't prove anything.

I’ve got Danielson as the top C option for us at 9 (assuming no major surprises). I love his skating though - to me I think we’re seeing the same thing but I view it as just effortless speed. Nice turnover rate when accelerating from a standstill, so I think he can be explosive if he needs to be. Agree on the hands and vision. Shot is pretty underrated too. I wonder with a good winger this year if he’d look more like a 1C. I saw quite a few primary assists from him where he basically gave his winger a tap-in

Yeah outside of the first pick or two, the draft is so uncertain. More shots at the dart board = better chance of elite players. Drafting in the 20s is marginally better than drafting in the 40s, let alone 3 chances vs 1 chance

Such a good video of last years 1st round pick, dont know how i missed it.

Got me thinking were he would go in this draft. Personally I would take him as high as 4th,

Yeah, it was posted a few times! Very exciting stuff

Nah, they'll take Michkov.
Unless Michkov specifically say Washington or KHL on interview someone else will get him. Despite all hope around him he still needs 2-3 seasons before he gets in NHL. I saw some games with both Buchelnikov and Michkov on the same line, that thing never worked , the were no chemistry between both of them. Last draft capitals got Miroshnichenko, he is already in USA, they just terminated his contract and I believe they going to get center, I think Dvorsky , but could be Danielson.

I don't hate the idea of Danielson. I'd prefer him at 17, or I'd even be willing to move up a couple slots to grab him in the 11-15 range. Maybe take a bad contract from Vancouver (Tyler Meyers) and swap picks with them? But if Yzerman and company are confident about Danielson and take him over Benson then I'm good with it.

I agree with the video's accounting of his skating and his shot. Both are definitely a plus. Watching his game reminds me a lot of Tyler Seguin at the same age. And I'm wondering, if the Brandon Wheat Kings had a better season would Danielson be talked about as a consensus top 10 guy?

Moving up to 11 and then having the draft fall out where we end up with a combo of Dvorsky/Danielson/Moore would great. Tired of having no center depth on this team behind Larkin. Kasper is a good start, this draft could really help though.

Going center/winger/rhd in that scenario would likely be preferable. Leonard/Perreault + Sandin-Pelikka + Moore? Sign me up.

I think Reinbacher will rise like Sanderson at the draft so I'm fully expecting him to be gone by 6. Leonard is likely gone at 7 and I'm expecting some f***ery that gets Michkov drafted at #8, with the gr8 Ovechkin making the selection for Washington.

So if I'm Detroit I'm looking at some combo of Benson, Dvorsky, Danielson, Willander, Perreault, Barlow. Maybe Moore, but I'm less sold on him because his best hockey came when playing with Ryan Leonard.

I'm with you in thinking the best combo would be Benson+Danielson or Dvorsky+Danielson. I sacrifice a 2nd or take on a bad contract to make that happen.

If no move is made then Dvorsky or Danielson + Willander or Barlow is my preference. Either way, organizational depth is addressed.

Another Danielson video. You know, if he's #29 and Kasper is #92, maybe that will be the modern equivalent of Detroit having #19 and #91 on the roster at the same time? :sarcasm:

I could see them being the 2 and 3 C for the future very easily. Or one could exceed expectations and become more.

Also like you said earlier, Brandon was a bad team. They only scored 212 goals. A team like Winnipeg scored 325 goals. That's a big difference.

And Danielson was EVERYTHING to that team. Led them in goals, assists, points. From all the highlights I can dig up on Danielson, he was very heavily involved in creating the goals he got points on.

Danielson is looking like the kind of player that, when he's scoring 70+ points and playing solid 2-way hockey like a Roope Hintz or Dylan Larkin, you're wondering why he wasn't picked higher.

Yeah I like him a lot, I had him top 15 pretty much all year. Think he ended up just outside of that on the last ranking I did (#16), but as I have said there is a pretty wide range of players I am open to us taking with the top pick. I think this is a deep forward class this year.

Would you be happier with:

Danielsson+Honzek+Dvorak+Haulttunen+Whitelaw

or

Moore+Willander+Dower Nilsson+Fikser Molgaard+Perron

??

I need to sit down and actually do my ranking. After the EP draft guide I'll have a better idea. But right now Danielson is looking like he's in the 8 to 13 range for me.
