WC: 2023 Czech Team

There are two Czech coaches who could possibly take the job if Jalonen quits: Rulík and Varaďa. I don't see any other legit candidate.
The question is are they really that good though? Varada was kinda terrible with U20, in Trinec he had the best team at disposal, so kinda hard to tell if those titles were actually thanks to his "skill" or just cause he had a stacked lineup.

Same with Rulik, was that silver really about his coaching skills or did we just had an exceptional team? Its not like he has more other sucesses in his career (just the title with Litvinov)

But Rulik is definitely worthy of chance there and we can see how it goes.

I dont know, every year I just happen to like more and more how Slovaks play. With canadian coach. So maybe there is the way?

Really hard to tell what would be the best choice.

But my guess would be, that they will choose Rulik. (of course unless Kari stays, which is also very probable)

So once again, Varaďa did not have the best team in Třinec according to the players. He was one of the best. At least Sparta had a comparable team, if not better. But he was the one who turned Třinec into a real winning team.

except its not ... we have like 20 players better then those, who are currently in the squad at home, sure a lot of them with injury which hasnt been kind to us this year, but still ... its not even close the best we had available for this year or for the nt in general

Its just frustrating .. if you look what team we could have had and what we currently have, its just frustrating.

I dont know what everyone was thinking thats gonna happen ... this team is weak period. Its not much better then what we usually bring to eht, and with such a squad you cant just win a wch. And its not hating the guys, its just a fact.

Just look at Latvia today and their lineup. Lot of guys from ELH one or two from NHL/AHL couple of guys from Sweden/Finland, Swiss leauge, on the paper they just dont have much weaker team that we brough to this wch. So that 3:4p and even match was absolutely expectable. Really dont know what was everyone thinking, that we gonna run them over 6:0? Why? most of our guys are playing in the same leagues as theirs, so there was no extra power on our side, sure maybe we have the top guys from euro leagues, but the difference is not that big tbh.

I said it many times over and say it again, you can bring all euro team and play good at wch, sure, but if you want to bring home medals or win gold you just NEED the NHL players. (of course there are some exceptions, but mostly it is true) NHL is so way above other leagues, that that extra power those guys have is just almost always a deciding factor.

And we have three this year (plus Zboril, Kaut) ... one is injured, one is not playing god knows why ... there is really nothing suprising that we are doing bad. Those euro guys, while good, just cant outplay those nations like Latvia, Norway, Dennmark etc. cause that difference is not that big. You need the NHL power for that. I know many will disagree, but this is my opinion on the matter.
So built the team here. I would like to see that 20 better players who could arrive and werent picked by coach.

Well he definitely didnt turn the U20 into the real winning team, and its not like he didnt also had a good team at disposal.

2019 he had Necas, Kaut, Zadina, Galvas, Kral, Lauko, Dostal in the team and we played absolutelly terrible.

2020 we played even worse, to be fair we didnt had that strong team, but we almost went to relegation group

I am not saying he is a good coach, but maybe some coaches are suited better for clubs and long seasons and some are better tournament coaches.

Varada showed so far, that he is not a good tournament coach. So I really dont know if I want nt led by a coach whose only results with any sort of nt so far are two absolutelly terrible performances.

Well basically anyone from NHL + Svozil, Jiricek, Galvas, Frk ...

And before you start to say "but most of them are injured" mind that I was reacting to your statement about "this is the best we have", which simply is not true, cause all those players were available. That most of them got injured doesnt matter, it still counts towards my statement that we are missing maybe like 20 guys which would be better in the team. I have counted the injuries in my original statement.

If you said something like "this is the best we have from those who have left" then it would be something else, but also not entirely true. Because we left those 3 guys (minus Jiricek of course) mentioned above + Vrana at home, and I think we would be stronger with those 4 in the squad. So even from those who we got left after all those injuries, we still didnt bring the best we have + we are stupidly not playing Vejmelka.

??? According to stats of czechs in NHL, first guy who was declined was Vrana, who was 14th among czech. All guys ahead of him either declined to come, still playing in playoff or came to play (ie Chytil, Kubalik). Total number of czech regular NHLers is around 20. So I dont know what you mean by “anyone from NHL” and I dont really see any reason to think that Svozil, Galvas and Frk are game changers.

I agree with all of that. He may not be a good national team coach, he may be too strict and the players may not accept him. It's not the same as coaching a club. He may not do well in Pardubice either. But he raised the club in terms of games and results and it was his merit, other coaches were nowhere near as successful, including Marek, who won the first title. But otherwise you can't compare the two at all, that's a huge difference..

According to isport, Kari has flat-out lied when he said that Zdenek Orct determines the goalie and he plays whoever is selected by Orct. Apparently Orct had different ideas who should play the last game, but Kari insisted on his own selection, hence Hrubec. If that is all true… (Almost doesn’t matter in a way, as head coach, it is ultimately all Kari’s responsibility and to throw Orct publicly under the bus like this feels like poor leadership.)

…and read the interview with Malek on isport. Incredibly scathing and just incredulous over Vejmelka not having played yet and the coaching team’s general handling of the goalie situation. And he is right.

Well I dont know if you even read what I wrote or what are you trying to pull here.

1. Do you know that Vrana only played like 25games this year? So saying he was only 14th among czech players in NHL stats is completely ridiculous lol. If he played the whole season he would be in the top 5 easily. You just dont leave a player like that at home.

2.Yes we have around 20regular players in NHL, but only 3 are currently still in PO. Other 17or so were available. And of that 17 we managed to score only 3 for the WCH. Doesnt matter what the reasons for others not to come were, if it was injury, personal reasons or we didnt want them (Vrana). They were available, they could have played for NT, but they are not. So my statement still stands. This team we have is nowhere near the strength we could have had, if we didnt had such a bad luck on injuries and maybe Havlat´s convincing skills were better.

3.I am not saying Galvas and Svozil would be a game changer, but it would definitelly be an inprovement to that pathetic D we have now at the tournament. They are both the type of players we desperately need and absolutely lack this year. Offensive, skilled with the puck, good in transition and not afraid to support the attack. Basically none of our D is capable of that right now. They are all slow, passive and lot of them cant even keep up with the speed of the game at the tournament. Svozil and Galvas would be better and I stand by it.

Indeed. I think you only need one word to prove that the coaching team is not entirely rational: “Jordan”.

It's comical at this point

What the f***???? Where did this even happened? I dont recall anything from the Latvia game, and Idnes is saying he got injured there

Sedlák may be out for the entire tournament. Unbelievable what is happening this year.
The worst part is that its always the best guys like Jiricek, Chytil, Sedlak ... never players we can miss like Jordan or Sobotka ...

I think someone maybe cursed Kari, cause this is absolutelly unbelievable

Omg this team is cursed 😂🙏

Well I just read an 8minute old post on FB that he is not going home yet, but he got 2days off ...

So where is the truth? :D

And the tweet above is deletet, so maybe there is hope after all.

The opponents of the Czech team are strengthening, the Swedish team will be strengthened by Liljegren and Nylander, the Czech team has decided to react and will also strengthen. Hrubec, Jordán and Sobotka have already left the host city.

Sedlák did not leave the team, that was a social media hoax. But he is doubtful for the remainder of the tournament. The decision will probably be made tomorrow. If he can't continue, a player from the pre-tournament long list can replace him, as per the IIHF protocol.

Hopefully this team is going through all the bad luck and and the next year in Prague the luck will smile at us.

So we can call one of the guys from pre tournament squad if Sedlak had to go home?

Is there someone who can at least somehow replace him?

I can think of Horak or Hyka maybe ... but they are obviously not at the level of Sedlak
