As a man of science, I can assure you that you have fallen victim to a very popular bias among sports fans - the dredded small sample bias.

Hrubec has a mere 8 WC games under his belt, with a slightly above mediocre 90,9%. It's not great, but it's certainly not bad.

It's extremely likely his showing at the World Champs is not matching his showing in the KHL/NL due to variance. Which is huge with a sample size of 8 games.

If you don't care about his club stats, that equals pouting your lip and saying that you don't care about this little thing called reality.

Everyone can have opinions, but yours is simply not valid.
Didn't know people on these boards can read others mind. I was totally basing my comment on the 8 WHC games.

Newsflash, Hrubec played in all sorts of joke international tournaments over the years and according to the official Czech hockey page, his save % in the 31 reported games is 90%. Which matches the eyetest too. Literal mediocrity.

But please, enlighten me again how I am a victim of some small sample size bs.

When he was in Třinec, he initially had good results in the regular season, then came the elimination matches and his performance was much worse. He improved every year and finally capped it off with a championship. But the journey was really long and I wondered if I wanted such a goalkeeper to catch for my team. I don't mean to say that he definitely shouldn't catch tomorrow, but there is a certain doubt whether he will fail again by chance, because, let's face it, he has failed in the national team in important matches so far. Vejmelka has experience from the best league and personally I would prefer him..

Simon Hrubec speculated to be the starter against Slovakia.

lol can't make this up. A goalie who should have been shot into the sun after last year's olympics, where he put up possibly the worst goaltending perfomace by a Czech at a major tournament in history, and he is likely to be a starter at the WHC only a year later.
And shootout tomorrow;)

If you think you can use your eyes to gauge the difference of a half of a percentage point, you're very likely fooling yourself, or you're a former pro goalie/goalie coach.

Care to make a bet on his SVS% in the World Champs? Over/under 90%.

I posted about 5 pages ago now that Hrubec was my 12th choice!

Mirinho said he thinks that is who Kari wants and it appears Mirino was right (or is Kari himself in disguise).

This is a classic thing for the Czechs.. bring your NHL goalie and sit him and play the Euro one. We've one one medal in a decade and I think it's time to realize we are the only nation doing this and it isn't working.

Hrubec is a great Euro goalie but the only nation that wins with Euro goalies consistently is Finland.

Off all the best on best Olympics.. only one non NHL goalie ever medalled (1998 Finland and he was a former NHLer).

Hniclicka over Vokoun in 2006 I believe was another solid choice
We played Francouz over Pavelece.. when Francouz made the NHL, we benched him in favor of a Euro goalie too (Bartosak).

This is the way! We must sit the NHL guy and play the Euro guy.lol

We also had a LOT of good goalies available but Kari seemed to have his mind made up!

Now all I need is for Sobotka to get top 6 minutes.lol

The other two I've seen:

1. play the NHL guy against the big 5 nations! play the Euro guy against the 'rest' Then start the Euro guy because he has better stats.

2. Ride the NHL guy to Semi's and play the Euro guy in the bronze match!

All of this in the last decade. 2010's biggest contributor was Vokoun (backup was Pavelec so we had 2 NHL options). You have to go back to 2000 to find Euro goalies winning golds at Skodas for us.

As far as Vanecek.. he played over 50 games in the NHL and was excellent. He's been awful in the playoffs but I'd like to remind everyone that Hrubec wouldn't get into 1 NHL game.. his best case scenario is to sign a 2 way contract and spend a year in the AHL (those Finn goalies that got Gold didn't last long either in the NHL... Arizona and Detroit I believe). Langhammer did try the NHL, so did Will - they didn't get close! Stezka is most likely headed for AHL too.

It's not apples to apples. Comparing guys that made the NHL to guys that never could should be the end of the debate.

Also shit like this is probably part of the reason why NHLers say no to coming to us. Hertl wasn't treated the best. Vrana wasn't treated the best. Pavelec was treated like shit. No Vejmelka is coming over and taking a seat againt Slovakia (one of our 3 most important games).

No, I'm not Kari 😂 and as I said earlier I want to have Veggie as starting goalie and I'd take Stezka over Hrubec.
But I know Orct (czech goalie trainer) and Orct was there before Kari (since 2018), he is there now and he is immortal and will be there after Kari aswell ... and Orct likes Hrubec and that's why I said Hrubec is locked ...

I am officially adding Orct to a very small list of Czech people in hockey I don't like

1. Hadamczak!
2. Zacha and his Dad
3. Orct

That's my entire list.lol

Funny thing, the Edmonton Oilers have a goalie coach that also is immortal.

It's Bartosak, Kovar, Salak all over again!

Yes, I'm pissy!

I'll be pissier tomorrow during the game.haha
I see what you mean and agree with most of it. As I already wrote, I would also prefer to see Vejmelka in the goal, on the other hand, I would absolutely not want to see Vaněček there, if you understand me.. Or not quite everything from the NHL must be better at any given moment.. Šimon, you can do it !:thumbu:

FTR.. I having nothing against Hrubec. I don't doubt he's great. It's the decisions that drive me crazy!

If we were looking at one medal after another then I'd shut up but we never win and keep doing the same things.

Start the NHL goalie seeems like an easy fix.. we have 8 of them.lol

I realy can't judge how good he is. But I don't remember any tournament since 2018 when I could say "wauu our goalie(s) won us some succes" ... every year we have unfortunately goalies with average (or below average) stats. And he is responsible for that ... 94% SV% by starter is only dream.

I didn't even know this was on the table?

FTR.. Ramsay and Jalonen are great coaches, but I hate that we have foreign coaches.

I'd love Rulik to be honest. But not because I don't like Kari. Although, i'm not liking a lot of choices so far this tourney.lmao I get what he's going for.. I'm just not sure it'll work.

Close cousins clash to start off the tournament tomorrow, should be a good one.

Any predictions?
The U18 was demolished by the first game against Slovkia (deserved loss and they were better).. hopefully it doesn't repeat here.

I'm guessing 4-3.. no idea who wins. I like our roster more than theirs but I have a bad feeling. Both of us need the win to avoid a Finn quarter. We need a clean win.

To be honest, I wish it was Canada right away... you guys kind of suck in the first game We get you near the end when you're good.lol My bolder prediction is that Latvia wins tomorrow. Tight knit group at home!

Here is the team so far.. 2 spots left open... Kaut and Vozelnik on outside... Palat in the picture? Faksa?

Locked in the Goalies (grrr) and the D.

Sounds like 2 of our NHLers will be eating popcorn against Slovakia tomorrow ... Kaut (semi NHLer) and Vejmelka. Funny that Knot is listed as a Coyote.

I don't think Canada is winning tomorrow either.

I'm torn on which game to watch at that time slot tomorrow Finn-U.S or Czech-Slovaks, I guess it will be what they call a game time decision on my part. Both have their story lines of interest and matters of which future possible competitor do I really want to scout the most.

US has been doing very well at this tourney. The team they are sending is fast! Good skating club. That Finn match could be great!

I won't see a second of it! You know where I will be.lol

lol,

U.S looked good in the first game game tuneup, fast team and they hustled, hard on the forecheck. Need to see about their goaltending and ability to muck it up along the walls and such when a team gets them in their own end and such and starts to pressure them.

I must say I am very scared about the game tommorow :D we have better team, se should win, but thats exactly the problem lol. Ve generally dont do well in those kind of matches, And I am worried that Slovaks will suprise us.
