Well a good win, but we really need to close those game better. Going from 4:1 and basicaly easy game to 4:3 is not what you want to see at WCH.
You are close to 100% actually!!No Galvas invite
No Vrana
Sobotka in Top 6
Didn't want a 2nd NHL goalie
Cut Svozil after a minute
loving Jordan more than anyone
using EHT as the main way to pick a team
Am I close?
Mine is valuing extraliga guys over the AHL guys. Drives me NUTS!You are close to 100% actually!!
Definitely. You are close to 100% actually!!
I guess we would need an US/Canadian coach to get rid of this stupid presumption. Euro coaches seems to be too set in their ways in this areaMine is valuing extraliga guys over the AHL guys. Drives me NUTS!
I completely agree. It’s not a Czech thing, it’s a European thing, given that Kari is not Czech. Mind you, Hlinka did OK in Nagano leaving a few North America-based players out… I was in Nagano for the quarters, semis and Finals btw. Dancing drunkenly with Neumanova on a table in the Czech House! Best memories ever. But Kari ain’t Ivan, and we had somewhat more talent back then…Mine is valuing extraliga guys over the AHL guys. Drives me NUTS!
I wonder how many more of those lousy AHLers have to return to Europe and dominate the Extraliga till they catch on?lolDefinitely.
I see 5 major mistakes so far:
1.Not wanting Vrana
2.Svozil cut after one game where he even didnt got a proper chance
3.No Galvas
4. Sobotka, Jordan, Scotka in the lineup
and 5. probably will be not inviting Kulich (which is almost certain I would say)
On the other hand, team seem to be playing good and is wining so far. So I guess we should not make any crucial criticism till the WCH is over. Maybe it will actually work lol, what do we know.
On the third hand (dont know if it is even an expression in english) pre tourament games means very little, and our D is still weak and Jordan, Scotka are still terrible lol

All very true… Then again, let’s not underplay that we 1. got to 4-1 in the first place and 2. did actually beat Sweden.Well a good win, but we really need to close those game better. Going from 4:1 and basicaly easy game to 4:3 is not what you want to see at WCH.
I would maybe also say then back then the euro leagues/extraliga were higher quality and the gap between NHL/euro leagues wasnt so big as it is nowadaysI completely agree. Its really hard to say what happened there, I guess only Vrana and the coaching staff know for sure. But what info we got from the media it seems, like he didnt declined and our staff actually didnt invite him so he can "get his personal affairs together"I tought Vrana declined? Surely a player of his profile can't be just left out right?
He was left out because coach talked to him and decided 'as a human being' that it'd be better if he didn't come and took the time to get ready for his next NHL season. True story!I tought Vrana declined? Surely a player of his profile can't be just left out right?
Yeah, agreed. But f - uck me, you weren’t there!! Nagano was just unbelievable! I don’t care what happens between now and the end of my hockey-watching life, being there and experiencing it and talking to Hasek who was so drunk he hardly knew who he was… There will never be a better memory. Having Svoboda score so soon after we got “Svoboda” from the Russians as someone who actually knew first hand what Communist Czechoslovakia was like… Don’t care how we did it or that we then mistakenly believed we can do that with Europe-based players… That was something all of us who were there will always cherish as the best ever.2010 and Nagano seemed to set us back.lol
I get we won both times without using our biggest names but that didn't mean we should start leaving our NHL players behind for Extraliga ones.lol
Also, the Extraliga was much different in 1998... most those Extraliga guys went on to good NHL careers. Spacek and Hejduk were Extraliga players. I'm not seeing the Top 4 NHL D man and future Rocket Richard Winner in the Extraliga in 2023.lol

One day we will find out what Vrana did.. it must involved kicking puppies and yelling at old people.lol
No. He really wanted to play, at least that is his official position.I tought Vrana declined? Surely a player of his profile can't be just left out right?
I think I came across wrong.. the selction of that team is brilliant! The Litinov boys, the D.. all of it!Yeah, agreed. But f - uck me, you weren’t there!! Nagano was just unbelievable! It's possible. I'm honestly not trying to speculate. But he always represents... he always comes.. he was hot in the NHL.. we need goal scorers.. just an annoying combo. Kind of like not consider Rousek and Kulich.. so now I'm cheering for your boys to win this weekend!Maybe he's doing more work in rehab.
I was sitting opposite Karel Gut in front of my beer while Jagr was shouting “Ty volleeeee!” into my ear. The atmosphere is simply not describable. And I can obviously not be objective - anything Hlinka had decided personell-wise was in retrospect genius of course. The victors do write history. So I am sure a lot of the 1998 critics had valid points, but I don’t give aI think I came across wrong.. the selction of that team is brilliant! The Litinov boys, the D.. all of it!
But using 1998 logic in 2023 is troubling.
It's a nerd admission but I watch those Nagano games every year on youtube.. quarter, semi and final. I LOVE them. Also, the game was different in 1998. the clutching and grabbing was insane.
Also, that was peak Slegr and he is still my fav Czech D of all time.
I see it exactly opposite in this sorry. How many players in past couple of years came back from AHL and completely dominated some euro league? Basically most of them. AHL is just better league then any euro league and those guys are better and should be considered more for the WC teams. To be honest, I am a bit bored of the fans' opinion about any NA-based player being automatically better choice than any Europe-based player and so on. It was empirically proven too many times this in not true. The team was working well together today, they did a good job and I believe they will perform good in Riga as well.
Knot is playing good also, and Kundratek is decent. But yeah Galvas pleaseeeBig concern is Spacek who I think is a lock for the team and Top 6.. didn't play third.
Hoping to see more of Kaut tomorrow. Same with Jiricek and Zboril.
Sounds like they have a press conference to announce the team tomorrow.. not sure what the rush is!
Our PP needs work and Top 6 isn't perfect but we have some great bottom 6 combos. We could have 2 very effectlive bottom 6 lines! Goalies are set.
Just that damn D. NO combination of those guys is very good.
Jiricek, Kempny and Zboril should be top 4. After that.. no real preference at all unless they surprise me and announce Galvas. Who I would put in the top 4 and then I'd stop bitching.lol
