Well, I'm not sure that 'chokers' is really accurate, but I am concerned that last year's loss to Seattle was due to the same reason(s) they lost to Vegas 3 years ago:

Their defensemen couldn't overcome a hard aggressive forecheck, and the goaltender let in some softies.
I might be the only one, but this still makes me upset.

More than any other single factor, if George didn't let in soft goals, the Avs have a very good chance of moving on... even with struggles elsewhere. I don't trust him in the playoffs yet. He's in the same boat as Kuemper and Grubi where it really doesn't feel safe... at least until he proves otherwise.

Wasn't that supposed to be Compher?
Both of them actually! And Z was the #1C we deserved!

Zadorov will only get better. He's still young.
He's only...

28!

I think one of my favorite stats from last year is Zadorov's 14 goals. The same goals scored last season as he scored from Nov 22, 2018 to April 29th, 2022. The prophecy is fulfilled!

I really hope we get a motivated and healthy RyJo as he would make a world of difference. The guy though that I feel has a real chance to take a step and help the Avs a lot over last year is Colton. His style of play should fit perfectly here. He's got more talent than he's shown so far in the NHL, especially in his playmaking ability. If RyJo struggles, it wouldn't shock me to see Colton get a run and really do well in the role. I also think he's got a real chance to help the 2nd PP unit a bunch. His shot is a weapon. People are going to be a big fan of him.
He is only here because of the chickpea gift basket he sent Nate Dogg.

Just over here. The rest of the HFBoards see them for what they are: a good team who should have the pieces to contend a certainly battle for the division title. So far, they have failed to really do so, yet over here some people are talking about them like they are a lock for the Presidents Trophy and WCF.
Naw they were getting a lot of love in the main thread board about 'brightest future'. They will be a decent team for a while but I don't see any Cups until Benn/Seguin etc are off the books.

I can see Benn... but Seguin has 4 years left. IMO their window isn't even 4 years long, it might not even be more than 3. I think they need to push all in now and just hope Benn and Seguin can be reasonably effective for them.

In truth, Colorado goaltenders have let in softies in 3 postseasons running. Just that in that middle season, the team was strong enough to overcome it.

Dallas has a great forward group now, but their defense still doesn’t look amazing to me. It’s also gonna depend which Oettinger shows up for them. I think they could have beaten Vegas if it wasn’t for goaltending in that series.

Going all the way back... I don't think any of the goalies since Roy have really been trustworthy in the playoffs. Varly got one chance an choked away game 7. Kuemper was unreal bad, but Avs go away with it. George was iffy. Grubi had his issues. Theo had one good run IIRC. Honestly Anderson probably has played the best since Roy and that one just one series. If we are looking at the more than one series, Grubi is probably the best... and that's just sad.

George needs to be more solid next playoffs. If he's iffy again, the Avs should move on. No time to waste anymore since the depth won't be there.

Stars are a good team, but are still a couple pieces away from being an elite contender.

But I mean the brightest future is far and away the devils. Their current team(outside of goaltending) is a top 5 roster and Hughes, Nemec, and Holtz haven’t even graduated to full time players yet. And Schmid clearly has some potential, but they may not have the patience to wait that out.

I like Buffalo almost as much as New Jersey tbh. I think they'll have the even better Defense and goaltending. Just a question of how deep the forwards can become but they have a pretty damn good Center punch to go up against the Devils in that regard as well.

Schmid is super underrated as a prospect. I think he'll be an above average starter. Which will be good enough for Jersey. I'm really curious on Levi... none of his tools scream elite goalie, but all of his production does. I highly doubt it as a rookie, but 3-4 seasons from now I wouldn't be shocked to see him as a top 5-10 goalie.

The sick thing with Buffalo is they still have more high end guys in the pipeline.

Yeah, with a nice mix to skills too. I think they are a year or two away still, but once they make the leap, they'll be a contender quick and have the assets to fill any needs.

When the Avalanche fall off happens, does everyone think they'll try to hang on for 2 decades like Detroit? Or eternally like NY? Or do we think they've learned?

Avs have always been a loyal organization. As long as contracts don't get in the way (namely with Rantanen), the main core guys (MacK, Rants, and Makar... Landy if he returns) will stay around until they retire. I'd expect a Pittsburgh like team with maybe a Last Dance shot thrown in.

I like that better than the other options. Rants future is pretty interesting to me. Kiss all depth good bye at that point. That's where I wonder what they start doing with their picks.

Just my 2 cents, I think if they're in the PO's at the deadline, go for broke this year. After that I hope they draft as much as they can to build out the roster again while learning from guys like Mack and Makar.

Needless to say I'm not excited for the Rantanen and Byram offseason.

Benn and Seguin can be reasonably effective for them.

Judging by last season's playoffs, the best thing Benn can do is get suspended for the entire playoffs in Game 1, so his idiot, slow self isn't consuming a lineup spot.
