Who wants Lindholm? Well, stupid question, the more relevant question is how do we make it happen?

likely starts with Byram (if extending is the goal). If you can give them any sort of futures, while having the best offer (unlikely), and making salary work you gotta do this even if it's just for after the TDL and playoffs.

It's not possible unless you want to let Rantanen walk.

The Avs with Lindholm as a 1B center playing behind MacKinnon are stronger than the Avs with Rantanen at wing IMO.

Plus Mikko is more than likely gone already. Trade Byram for Lindholm, try to win a cup this year then (depending on Landeskog's status) either use Mikko as an internal rental or trade him for a boat load of futures.

MacKinnon - Lindholm - RyJo is banana pants good center depth.

That's that 4D chess bullshit. It's a downgrade all day.

Even an elite winger, at his very best, is just a winger. Wingers have a hard cap on how much they can impact the game. The Avs are better served when chasing a cup by having elite center depth with three of Makar/Toews/Byram/Girard on the backend.

As constructed now, they're destined for a repeat of last season when RyJo can't hang at 2C in the postseason - hell he isn't doing it in the regular season. Teams will game plan around shutting down MacKinnon because they're simply not scared of the scoring threat on the second line at 5v5. We've seen it too many years in the past with this Avs core. Maybe the Avs will win a round this year but they're definitely not coming out the west without a real 2C. It took Kadri playing like a 1C for them to finally get out of the second round.

The way I see it they can afford both Lindholm and Rantanen this year if they trade Byram and dump McDermid/etc, go balls to the wall trying to win another cup this season. Then the sacrifices start. Extended Toews came with consequences and it'll probably start with Rantanen.

It all depends on what Lindholm wants on his next deal. Horvat is a pretty fair comparable to me and if you can sign him for that money the Avs would be complete fools not to go after him.

Even if RyJo is doing fairly well here come January/February, you can always shift him to "wing" and put Linhdolm at Center. I say "wing" because really he could take every faceoff on the line he's on if it matters, have him play the Landy role on Mackinnons line.

Honestly I don't think it would take Byram to get Lindholm either. Again I look at the Horvat deal as a comparable here. Something like our 2024 1st + Ritchie would be a good starting point I think. Although we would still have to move Bo anyways before his next contract so maybe you do a Bo+ for Lindholm+ sort of trade.

RyJo - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - Lindholm - Mikko
Wood - Colton - Tatar
Cogs - Olofsson - LOC

That is a forward group you win another cup with.

The forward group would look good, but then we'd have 2 or (depending how much Manson regresses) 3 holes on defense.

Absolutely not. Rantanen isn't just some random first line winger. He's the type of guy you keep around for life if you can. An all-in type deal for Lindholm I wouldn't be opposed to. But to say we could take him over Rants is nuts. Rather rent Lindholm than see Rants go.

Ideally we could shed Manson in the process.

Or keep Rantanen (one of the leagues top players) and continue to compete for cups.

Lindholm can’t hold Rantanen’s jock strap.

I don’t see how moving a vastly superior player for an inferior one makes you a better team.

Meh. We'd continue to have the best Top pairing in the league and at least one more legit Top ~3 guy. Elite forward depth is what wins championships, you can easily get away with a mediocre #4/5/6 Defense and still win the cup. You can't win with mediocre forward depth.

While I certainly agree Center depth is more important than Wingers, I think theres enough of a drop off in skill from Mikko to Lindholm that it makes the Avs worse.

It's not all that far off though especially when you throw in the $4-5M in cap savings of Lindholm versus Rantanen.

Exactly. Factoring in Lindholm's raise, he's still much cheaper than Rantanen going forward giving roster flexibility AND the two most important positions to winning (center depth and top tier defense) are solved going forward.

I'm not even saying lose Mikko now. Try to win this year and next (assuming Landy is done) then let Mikko walk. This core's window is over after that season anyway. Then go into the retool with MacKinnon/Lindholm and Toews/Makar/Girard.

And if Calgary knows what they're doing, they immediatly glue Byram to their PP1 and start grooming him to be their #1D of the future.

Or keep Rantanen (one of the leagues top players) and continue to compete for cups.

Posters here are going to have a bad time over the next year and a half when they slowly realize Mikko's contract demands are going to be insanely high and there will be plenty of teams who are willing to give it to him.

Honestly I think theres an avenue to being able to keep both Lindholm and Rantanen still.

I'd have to look into the numbers further but I think it could work. The key likely being that Landy ends up on LTIRetirement unfortunately.

Colton would definitely be moved to 2LW then, and RyJo+Manson+G would be traded.

Next year
Lehks Nate mikko
Colton Lindholm Nuke
Wood sillinger Kovalenko
??? ??? LOC

Toews Makar
Bo peeke
??? ???

Georgie
