Regarding Landeskog and playoffs:

That man will not have played a single game for 2 years. And then you throw him into the playoffs?

Folks, lets get serious. Even healthy, this would be kinda siucide-mission.

I see this said often, but how many high level NHLers actually missed two seasons, and tried to come back? I'm struggling to think of any except Mario. Either way, it's not like we have a big sample size to go off.

Forsberg missed a whole regular season and came back and led the playoffs in points, even though he didnt' play in the finals.

Eichel missed 11 months. Then came back and had to play with the fear he could break his neck, but played fairly well finishing with 14 goals 25 points in 34 games. Then was one of their best players when they won the Cup.

In the Avs Cup year, Gabe missed the last two months of the regular season, then jumped into the playoffs on a bad knee and was great. Put up 6 points in the 4 game sweep of Nashville and 11 goals 22 points in 20 playoff games overall.

Everyone including Gabe missed 5 months during COVID and then jumped right into the playoff bubble. Gabe had points in each of his first two games, 6 in 5 against Arizona, and 13 in 14 overall.

Bo Byram missed 7 months with really bad concussion symptoms, probably couldn't exercise too much, and came back and played well. Was by many accounts the Avs best defenseman in the finals.

I feel like most of the doubt on Gabe coming back stems from the past when players let themselves get out of shape often in off seasons, and then missed substantial time with an injury, and then couldn't come back.

Players now are different. The way they take care of their bodies is entirely different. There will be some rust with timing and handing the puck for sure, but if Landy's been rehabbing for months, then he shouldn't be too far off game shape with his conditioning.

So if he comes back, you limit his ice time to start, play him on the 3rd or 4th line, and even a rusty Landeksog's hands, with a high level hockey IQ, is probably going to be an upgrade on any of the wingers in the bottom six. A playoff round or two in, with all the extra practices, and maybe he shakes off that rust.

Didn't Mario win the Heart that year he came back? That was insane shit.

I'll always be a big fan of his. He's the only other jerseys I have besides Avs.

I wonder if the gambling rumors will affect the Pinto situation. My local bag boy at the grocery store still says the Avs have interest in him though.

Is that who that poster is? Either way Jeff Marek said that it wasn’t Hockey that was being bet on in the gambling ring, so at least that is something.

It was during the off season too. Kind of ridiculous that you can't bet on other sports in the off season, and if you do you get suspended half the season. The betting site apparently tipped off the NHL too. Just feels kinda slimy all the way around.

These betting sites are just raking in the money with terrible odds too. Every time I see the odds I shake my head.

Pointsbet had a MacKinnon hat trick tonight at +1500. 15 to 1, are you kidding me? He's played 715 games and has 4 hat tricks. He's averaging a hat trick every 179 games. Anything less than 100 to 1 is just printing money for the betting sites. Even more than that really.

That's a stupid decision IMHO. It was an event that got the league media exposure and a gathering where deals happened. The dynamics are going to be completely different. And that is nothing said of all the "magic" of being drafted for the players.
All that sickening hype of Bedard ruined it.

I for one will be glad for that.

Hockey is in trouble all around so glad hype g someone is ehat they feel they have to do to sell the game I guess.

They've been going with 4F and 1D (Toews) on PP2 so far this year. Bo should just replace Toews. I agree it does seem like Makar goes off sooner than the forwards, so this would benefit Bo.

Bo's better as PPQB and Toews signed his big deal so he doesn't need the PP time in his contract year anymore. It just makes sense to do it this way IMO. It's the best move for the team.
Easy to see this but sometimes one has to wonder what goes.on in the coaching staff's heads. Just do this already.

I mean the 6.3m MacKinnon should be irrelevant, it was obviously an undervalued contract. A 12.6m MacKinnon is market value. Maybe I'm optimistic but I think it's going to get done in the offseason at 12m.

The salary cap won't be 92M if they talk contract this off season.
The league is heading for trouble financially . Not sure what the cap will end up being.

Don't worry guys, I'm keeping my groin nice and loose for the transplant Georgiev is going to need in January.
Georgiev is getting fitted with these.

Not only Rants has a history of asking for significantly more than what Mack is making but he showed up late last time and missed camp because of tough negotiations. He also didn't want to go 7 or 8 years. This won't be Toews part II.

The context missing here is that Rantanen was a far better player coming out of his ELC than MacKinnon.

Marner signed before Rantanen for $11M and Mikko took a deal for 9. Hardly taking every penny.

Btw… After missing camp Rants flew into Denver and had two goals on opening night.

No matter how you look at it one of Byram/Girard has to go. I wonder if it's going to end up being Byram since he'll net us more value in a trade VS Girard.

You keep the better player all day long. Trading for cap savings rarely works out.
