Regarding Landeskog and playoffs:

That man will not have played a single game for 2 years. And then you throw him into the playoffs?

Folks, lets get serious. Even healthy, this would be kinda siucide-mission.
Even if he's not the Landeskog of old, you're telling me he wouldn't be an upgrade on Miles Wood for the 3rd line? Even after 2 years he would be.

If he's healthy enough to play, whatever version of him we get would be an upgrade to the lineup.

Not necessarily. They do just fine with the NFL draft. Players and families still attend, and come out on stage.

The problem is the timing of the draft and the start of free agency. They are too close together. If they want to keep the draft as is, they need to do it the weekend immediately after the SCF ends, or move the start of free agency back a week or two.
I can't remember who it was at the Athletic that threw out such an incredibly fun idea.

Start free agency on day two of the draft and keep going live with the broadcast. You would see all the teams on the floor in action both drafting and working the phones with agents signing players.

As whoever it was that wrote the article said, it will never happen or even be considered. But it would be fun.

Feels like we're operating under the assumption that Francouz is out for the year at this point.
If Francouz is out perhaps the Avs should consider acquiring Vladar as a replacement. Not sure it's wise to hinge a season on Prosvetov or Annunen as backup in the playoffs. Calgary would probably have to retain a little bit to make it feasible though, especially given the extra year on Vladar's contract.

Shane 'Pete Rose' Pinto !!! Let's get that guy!!

I have a hard time believing that the Avs aren't in on this guy. They know RyJo is only a temporary solution, and they know better than to rely on Ritchie to become a 2C in 2 years.

He would solve a lot of our issues

The Pinto thing explains things...this is from 2022 and teams have to carry the full cap hit of a suspended player.

So in short the Sens knew about the investigation and knew what was coming, hence were in no rush to sign him.

Not only Rants has a history of asking for significantly more than what Mack is making but he showed up late last time and missed camp because of tough negotiations. He also didn't want to go 7 or 8 years. This won't be Toews part II.

I mean the 6.3m MacKinnon should be irrelevant, it was obviously an undervalued contract. A 12.6m MacKinnon is market value. Maybe I'm optimistic but I think it's going to get done in the offseason at 12m.

When the salary cap is going to be $92M? He absolutely will be making more than Mackinnon.

If the Avs aren't willing to sign him at $13M+ he will definitely leave.
The salary cap won't be 92M if they talk contract this off season.

And Rantanen definitely isn't going to care where the cap is going in a year or two, right?
And the MacKinnon contract took that into account so it’s a fair comparable.

Everyone talks about his previous contract negotiations but he's spent 9 years with the team now and won a championship. The circumstances aren't the same.

Forsberg is probably an exception and the injuries he was recovering from weren't potentially career-ending. If Gabe did return for the playoffs it would be a huge morale boost but I wouldn't expect him to be nearly as impactful on the ice as Forsberg was.
Not only were they “potentially career-ending,” they very literally WERE career-ending (eventually). The ankle issues that plagued him from then on out finally prompted him to hang them up. I don’t think he’s an exception at all, especially since he was way more injury prone than Landeskog.

Maybe he would - like everyone's favourite '#2C to acquire' last season - Barrett Hayton ?

You can say Pinto is better than Newhook but he’s far from a surething 2C. I’d argue he’s not even much better than Newhook.
