I don't see the Avs going after Pinto. Personally I would do it and trade a 1st+ but the Avs arent doing it. Shit teams like the Hawks should be all over that though.

Yeah I'd do it too.

The Avs center depth would be great with Mackinnon-RyJo-Pinto plus Colton on the wing.

In that scenario even if RyJo fails to impress and needs to be bought out you've still got Mackinnon-Pinto-Colton down the middle next season which is pretty solid.

And no matter what you're allowing yourself to be patient with Ritchie. If and when he's ready for C duties he could just slot at 3C and push Colton back to the wing.

Realistically the Avs won't do it though. They're commited to RyJo-Colton and having Ritchie take over the 2C or 3C job by the time RyJo hits UFA in 2025.

What would Pinto realistically cost? Have to consider that the sens don't have any leverage and they can't take cap back
If teams are lining up for him they'll have leverage.

How long before Byram's camp demand a trade? He's potentially losing millions by not getting better opportunities offensively.

Depends on how Byram and his agent feel. He's on a great team with a chance to win every year, playing with all time greats. He's also still young and this would basically be how a D man was slowly brought into the league 10-15 years ago.

I think the Avs have one more season of deferring to the vets and making him the odd man out in terms of offensive roles, before it becomes an issue. This year won't have too much of an impact on his next deal. It's next season that will be the main driver for that.

IMO they should at some point this year make him the main QB on PP2. The 5v5 pairing with Girard isn't ideal for his offensive game, but that's not enough to ask for a trade really. The PP2 ice time could definitely cost him millions though if he's not the main guy in that role by next year.

Yeah, I’m more in the camp where he ends up a 3, or 4 D than a 1, or 2 D these days.

I was convinced when I saw him early in his NHL career that he would be a star, but he looks like a run of the mill defenceman more often than not early this season and last.

He’s still young, so a lot can happen. His toolbox is incredible, but he doesn’t really seem to be able to put it together. He’s not as aggressive as he used to be and his defence has dipped.

I certainly don’t think he’s as bad as he’s played in the 1st four games this season, but I have a hard time seeing him reach the once lofty ceiling I had for him, that at one time I thought was nearly a certainty.
Pratt's coaching. He should play giddy up all the time Especially early in the season

Holy crap. Now we are hating on Byram?

A 22 year old Dman who went nuclear for us in the Stanley Cup run?

Give the kid some time for gods sake. He will be Drew Doughty V2.0. Book it.

Well your opinion is flat out wrong so there's that.

When someone says absurd garbage you should expect to be called out for it.
absolutely

PP2 gets like 20-25 seconds though no? I feel like his main offense is 5v5 and he can't be at his best with Girard.

I don't think people should get too down on Byram until either:

1. he gets more time at RD. Hopefully he will figure it out but he might never will also. Some people are able to get used to it but some others are not. I'm a RD and I hated having to play the left side and could never get better at it.

2. he is back to LD and we can see if he is back to his old self or even take a step forward.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see it with Byram. All these excuses for why he hasn't taken the next step, saying he hasn't had the opportunities to do so. But when I watch him, it's not like he's playing mistake free hockey or that he is demonstrating he can play above his current role. He's taking on lesser opponents and still making poor decisions and taking bad penalties. As far I'm concerned he doesn't deserve top pairing defensive duties because he hasn't shown he could handle them.

Yes he's young and needs time to grow, but i'd be worried having him on my teams top pairing. If he demands to be traded because he thinks he deserves better, well I disagree he does but I'd ship him out and get whatever you can for him.

True. He is definitely going through some growing pains. Injuries haven't helped his career, because remember he has only played 95 regular season games. That's nothing.

It's fine though. Not many defenseman figure things out immediately, most of the players are not like Makar. I am happy to wait still.

It's nice when the team starts on a win streak and this board has arguments over who to run out of town.
True haha

I'm not hating on the kid. I think he's talented, he's just not the #1D that many think he is, in my opinion. Your opinion is clearly different and I'm happy for you. I'm wrong because you're right. Cool

Dude....he's 22

Good lord. I give up with this place.

Just checking in if we are still supposed to be hating on Johansen or not?

The tales of Byram's heroics in the cup final have gotten so blown out of proportion. He was a solid steady D but you guys talk about him like he was our Conn Smythe.

How so? He was a dominant force and a massive reason we won the cup. As a 20 year old.

This is literally the craziest place I have ever been associated with.

I think people talk about him like he was a brand new player to the league and performed at a steady pace that most can’t, showing his potential is huge. Blown out of proportion is saying he’s not going to be as good as we thought cause his first 5 games haven’t been lights out.

While Pinto is a good young center, they don't really need him.

With Stutzle and Norris in front of him and signed forever, Pinto's future short and long term is basically capped at 3C in Ottawa.
Yeah but Norris is never healthy.

Obviously Makar was, but Byram was tremendous in that SCF.

Anyone saying otherwise is simply focusing on Byram's recent stretch of poor play and thinking he must not have been great against Tampa Bay.
