Colorado is what a rebuild is supposed to do, over a 6 year period they used 1st round picks on Landeskog, MacKinnon, Rantanen and Makar. You have to hit homeruns with multiple 1st round picks. We did it in 05 and 08, Chicago did it in 06 and 07, Tampa did it in 08 and 09, Pittsburgh did it in 03 and 04. It's just the most proven way to develop a contender.
