Ducks had a really bad run of 3rd/4th round forward draft picks.
2018- McLaughlin, Perbix
2017- Badini, Olson
2016- Kopacka, Dostie
2015- Gates, Sideroff
2015: Rd 5. Terry
I think Terry more than makes up for missing out on Gates and Sideroff. heh
I kinda expect not much from 3/4th round picks all around, but Anaheim does find gems in goalies and d-men. We've been trading d-men and goalies (Andersen, Fasth FA from Europe) for other things. Also, those are our playoff years. We're not picking at the top of the 3rd round where a forward with potential drops like Pastujov at the 2021 draft.
In 2019 and 2020, there was a shift in drafting forwards much higher.
2019: Rd 1 (9th), C Zegras; Rd 1 (29th), LW Tracey
2020: Rd 1 (27th), RW Perreault; Rd 2 (36th), RW Colangelo
A trend under Verbeek is to pick up forward overagers in the 3rd/4th round.
2022: 4th Rd (107th), C/RW King
2023: 3rd Rd (85th) Sidorov
