Looks like Perreault at least is producing. That team didn’t expect it to be this bad. What’s going on there?
Perhaps the reason will turn out to be that a coach whose hype was driven by a nice background story and a YouTube presentation, also needs other skills to be efficient. I don't think it's only on the coach down there tho

So odd for them to have this downfall after a pretty solid first couple games of the season - Have lost everything since.

San Diego GuLLLLLLLLLs. 8 straight losses after tonight’s 5-2 defeat to Colorado

EDIT: Actually needed to add an extra L because it's 9 straight. The failure comes so rapidly, I can't even keep up!

Yeah I’m not at all surprised by the lack of offense but they are just bleeding goals lately. Matt has to get that under control to an extent.

How has Luneau been in San Diego?.. strictly stats wise nothing is really popping out with 2 assists in 5 games but I'm curious how he's looking for those that have seen him.

I'm curious as well. I think in his first game he happened to be on ice for all goals for IIRC. That teams is horrible, would love to hear an eye-test observation.

Perreault gets scratched for scoring a goal the previous game. Losing my patience with McIllvane

He must of had a bad overall game, but his production seems to be vastly improved from last season. Was hoping he'd eventually take Vatrano's spot in a couple of years. We don't seem to have much if any high-end promising forward prospects.

May need to select a few more forwards in this coming draft. Really don't want them to finish bottom 5 or even bottom 10, but another Top 10 pick could go a long way.

Perreault is a nonfactor if he's not scoring. This Gulls team is pretty bad at sustaining pressure so Perreault has a tendency to completely disappear. He had some nice shifts but if McIlvane thinks he could benefit from some time watching games from the press box I can't really argue against that.

By contrast, it'd be weird if Regenda gets any more healthy scratches, I'll put it that way.

I haven't been able to watch him play, but I was hoping he'd be the 3rd wheel this season on a 3rd line late this season with Henrique(?) and Zegras. Hopefully he or Regenda can make the jump by early next (calendar) year.

I know they're light on forwards down there, but I'm really confused as to the massive struggles the Gulls are having. It has to be coach-driven, right? The players can't be that bad. The shot numbers are, dare I say it, Eakins-like.

Verbeek might have gotten a hit with the NHL coaching hire, but he looks to have struck out in the AHL. Massive caveats, of course, that it's still early for both. But how long do things continue to go poorly down there before something happens?

I believe the lack of production is due to lack of talent + a lot of rookies.

Two seasons ago, both Perreault and Tracey had very good seasons. That roster was set up under Murray's regime.

Last year, Verbeek was in charge of the AHL roster. It was bad. Groulx was our best center last year, and he's our defensive specialist. Our blue line wasn't all that either. Both Perreault and Tracey had down years.

This year, we added a lot of rookies: C Gaucher, W Pastujov, W Nesterenko, F King, LD Zellweger, and LD Hinds. Yet, our center situation hasn't improved. Perreault is scoring, but no much else aka Daniel Sprong. Tracey is taking a hike with Waldo, we're still searching for them.

If we put C Carlsson, D Mintyukov, and D LaCombe in the AHL, then I bet we'd be a far better team. We would actually have a top-line center in the AHL with Carlsson.

If they’ve now been terrible under 2 different head coaches, isn’t that a sign that it may be on the players?

And/Or the GM.

Both of these, probably. However, hasn't there been an influx of new players that were supposed to rejuvenate the team? Nesterenko, King, Gaucher, Pastujov, Wiebe, Caulfield, Zellweger, Hinds, Wolff, Hagg, Carrick - that's like half the roster that turned over. So it's not that it's the same players that are bad under two different coaches.

It's also my impression that coaching can make a bigger difference in the AHL than the NHL. And I'm not sure where the best place to check is, but it sounds like they've been getting outshot by quite a bit in their games.

I'm just wondering if this is on Verbeek for getting bad players, if it's on him for getting a bad coach, or if it's just something that needs time to play out. I'm not concerned about the AHL team not winning a championship, but I'd rather they at least be competent.
