The 2 players I keep coming back to for legit top 6 help are Boeser and Nylander. :/ both have had stupid good starts to the season.

Can’t say I understand why. Both are nearing huge UFA contracts that don’t make that much sense for us to hand out
I'm thinking as long term fits not just their current contracts. RS forwards with histories of scoring goals and both with stocky builds at 6'-6'1" both over 200 lbs. Boeser is probably the guy you target if you want a guy who will put up around 60-70 pts and pay around 7 mill and Nylander is the guy if you want that next tier player but will cost 2-3 mill more.

They aren’t fits for us on their next contracts. They will be in their 30s signed long term by the time our young core is in their primes

Assuming no one in our system lands, who do you think works for us? Who is next season’s debrincat?

Boeser is the same age as Terry. How long are we going to keep pushing out competing or trying to. At this stage they likely represent the final top 6 piece for years to come. The only argument I can come up with is cost which is true for ANY legit winger we may target. Given the deal we just gave Killorn I don't think age is as big an issue for PV as the rest of us make it out to be. If we only want to spend 5-6 mil then we're likely to end up with a Rico/Strome type of player. I think we all would prefer someone closer to the 2 I mentioned.

Age isn’t the issue here, it’s age in conjunction with contract length. Do you think this team is a top 6 winger from being a contender? I certainly don’t think they’ve shown that. Yes Boeser and Terry are the same age but an 8 year deal to Boeser in 2 years is a deal that runs 3 years longer than Terry’s. I’m all for making a significant addition when the time is right but they need to fit our core

Evander Kane would be perfect for this team. He hits, hes skilled and most importantly he wants to win.

I can see why the above would be looked down upon by people who are addicted to the tank.
Evander Kane has been a cancer inside and outside the locker room. He’s exactly what you don’t want as a role model for young players.

thoughts on acquiring Cam Atkinson? He’s a bit smaller/older than I’d like but a proven goal scorer that we need
Not sure what the price would be

Henrique-Carlsson-Terry
Vatrano-Zegras-Atkinson
Killorn-McTavish-Strome

Oof didn’t realize he’s 34. Thought he was more like 29-30

Nevernind

Debrincat would have been real nice in hindsight…
I wonder what the price for us for Debrincat would’ve been.

I think it is way too soon ro pull the plug on Zegras Carlsson Terry. We aren’t running for the playoffs, and at some point Zegras will figure out the sweet spot between the crest and the outside of the post.

It's fair and I'm not sure either is reasonable add honestly. But as far as the skill level a build they're pretty good fits and I'm not sure I see a better one except maybe Stamkos as a ufa? Generally I don't see a whole lot of guys being available and these 2 probably aren't either. Looking around the league I'm not sure who you target. Debrusk maybe? An old P. Kane? Maybe St Louis parts with Buchnevich and starts a rebuild?

I like DeBrusk as an offseason target. I’m a huge Buchnevich fan, but I wouldn’t touch him unless we can sign him to a reasonable extension. He’s also been a bit injury prone.

There are not a lot of obvious trade candidates at this point, but this team also doesn’t NEED to make a trade right now. No reason to try to force anything when this team isn’t a player away from taking the next step

Since we're in a development season this year (see Carlsson load mgmt) and next, why not wait to see who else develops or becomes available due to cap constraints? I kinda want to know what we have defensively, both at the NHL and AHL levels. And the more our d-men look like future NHLers, the more draft trade capital we have.

That is both reasonable, sensible and boring. No point in being a keyboard warrior wannabe GM if that kinda attitude permeates (jk of course).

in any case- part of this is seeing what smarter folks see as potential options.
