Are we running a church or playing hockey? Can he help the ducks win?
Don't take this the wrong way, but have you ever played team sports? Because I feel like if you have then you would know why who he is off the ice matters both in terms of effecting the team culture, and effecting the 19-20 year old millionaires that are learning how to be a professional and live their life the right way. Living their life the right way that will effect their on-ice proformance.

Since Gudas is getting penalized more and more, Cronin made a shift in D pairings. Here's how we changed it up in-game:

LaCombe-Fowler (don't know who was assigned RD b/c they kept flip-flopping often on the ice)
Minchy-Gumby
Vaaks-Gudas

If Drysdale is still out and Luneau needs a longer break, then I'd prefer to use this lineup instead when Vaaks is inserted.
Can we please stick with Minty and not Minchy lol.

I think if they continue this play they’re going to make a run of it but I think next year is going to be playoffs.

It could happen this year because they’ve had a tough schedule and they look good.

Yes I have and so has McDavid

Sports are filled with less than morally fit people and they get on with it. Kobe was accused of rape and still went onto win muiltple championships. Karl Malone had a kid with a 13 year old and the jazz still did pretty damn good.

It becomes a problem if hes a jerk in the locker room. Which is debatable as pointed out by @JAHV. Personally I think he'd be worth the risk but I can see why some wouldn't.

So glad you posted this video, because thats what a GOOD teamate would say in that situation.

Nothing in Kane's career shows he is that guy. He isn't a winner. He isn't a good teamate. He makes terrible decisions off the ice. And has basically been ostracized from 3 NHL lockerooms already in his career.

He is the guy you take a chance on as the final piece to win a cup (like Edmonton did). He isn't the guy to be around a young developing roster.

More fun fancystats:

The Ducks sit 10th in the NHL on the season in xGF% at 53.61%. 47% was the highest they got under Eakins.

The Ducks are 5th best in 5-on-5 defense, giving up only 1.42 goals per 60 minutes. Their expected GA is not nearly as good, so there's still some work to do there, but that means the goalies have been playing well at 5-on-5.

Their actual 5-on-5 offensive production is poor (9th worst). Their 5-on-5 expected production is...2nd best in the league, behind only Toronto. That's incredible. Someone get that ketchup bottle flowing.

Also, someone figure out the special teams, please.
I do think that some of that variance between actuals and expected is real, as in we have below average finishing ability as a whole but no doubt there is some bad luck going on.

I agree that we're not the 2nd best 5-on-5 offense in the league, all things considered. The finishing will have to improve by quite a bit to make that claim plausible. But it's just remarkable the stark contrast in their ability to drive play between last season and this season.

Terry/zegras arnt going to be snake bitten all season... with the type of chances theyve been creating, they are going to get some very hot streaks at some point.

Killorn being back should help with some of the finishing, and should give us more solid depth in the top 9.

Im not too worried about it right now, just keep doing what they are doing.

Kane has won more in his career than most. MEM Cup, Ivan Halinka, World JR Gold. Winning in the NHL is very difficult but he still performs well when it counts. He puts up good numbers in the playoffs (was almost a goal a game player when EDM made West Finals) and is always the first guy to stick up for a teammate.

I think hes worth taking a chance on for a team who wants to make the playoffs over the next 3 years and have a roster that can go through the grind of a 7 game series IF hes not a locker-room problem, which outside of this weekends pithy comments he hasn't really shown to be in Edmonton.

thoughts on acquiring Cam Atkinson? He’s a bit smaller/older than I’d like but a proven goal scorer that we need
Not sure what the price would be

Henrique-Carlsson-Terry
Vatrano-Zegras-Atkinson
Killorn-McTavish-Strome

Oof didn’t realize he’s 34. Thought he was more like 29-30

Nevernind

Debrincat would have been real nice in hindsight…

Debrincat on this team would have been soooo much fun

Lyubushkin is doing what he does best, be a complementary stay-at-home D-man so Minchy can "roam if you want to... roam around the world".

As for your Tracey over Kaliyev pining, let's counter with comparing top-10 selections between the Kings and Ducks. Would you rather have Turcotte, Byfield, and Clarke over Zegras, Drysdale, and McTavish? I'm pretty sure Kings fans would believe having the Ducks' selection would be a far more significant upgrade.

You're conflating different situations. A high pick is much more likely to pan out and your point of Ducks vs. Kings really just supports the notion that the Kings are terrible at drafting. It is not like the Ducks staff get credit for the decisions made by teams picking AHEAD of them. The only proper comparison is the players actually available at the time a pick is made (i.e., the player selected vs the players taken later). And I think its particularly fair to compare the player selected to guys taken by other teams at about the same point in the draft.

And with respect to the Tracey pick, there were many people (myself included) who were clamoring for the ducks to take Kaliyev. This is not monday morning quarterbacking.

This narrative that Mintyukov needs a stay at home guy with him so "he can roam" is tired and obsolete. He is making a ton of plays in the defensive zone and preventing zone entries. He isn't an offensive dynamo, defensive liability.

I agree - that is why I said I thought Mintyukov was carrying Lubo (from an advanced stat perspective). And I don't think Lubo is all that great as a "stay at home d-man." Minty is driving the play and Lubo is more or less a passenger who is often out of position. Minty would be fine playing with pretty much any other D-man on the roster.

Said it in the injury thread but hope Jamie going to IR means Killorn is joining the team for the trip.

I can't remember if his timeline has changed at all but pretty sure that would line up with the initial projections.
