McTavish last year had 43 points in 80 games. Only 17 of those came in the last 40, and he was scoreless in 27 of the 40. His massive falloff in play erased his Calder hopes. Resting a couple games may well have kept them alive.

As a 17 year paying consumer, I’m fine with resting an 18 year old. It’s not like they’re resting Zegras and Terry, they’re resting a kid An 18 year old wouldn’t be playing in the NFL, and would likely be undrafted, cut, or be receiving minimal minutes in the NBA.

Also - there’s not a strict plan, and the goal is to make sure he can “be a horse in the second half of the season” - THAT is how he gets a Calder.
McTavish was also coming off a very unique year. He played in the olympics where he had to deal with all the covid stuff, same with the world jrs in the winter. He then went onto play through an entire OHL playoff run and then the mem cup. After that he played in a late summer world jr and then came to the rookie tournament. With all that said, I doubt rest would do him much good. He played through the entire season and looked more confident as the season went on. His production may have taken a hit but he had experienced the ups and down of the season and I think hes better off for it. I doubt his calder hopes would've improved by having him sit out. He was on a team that gave up on the year by November.

You may be fine with it, but theres plenty of fans that won't be.

This is the type of thing this type of management breeds. Could you imagine someone living in Columbus that's a ducks fan and pays for front row seats to see the new big star? only to have him sit in the press box. Its a shameful practice that should never be brought to the NHL. Its even more shameful for the home fans who had to watch an ECHL team play for their team for 41 games last year.

Once Drysdale and Killhorn come back.. This team will be a force.. Killhorn will get the second line going.. Vatrano and Strome can feast on the third line players
The team will probably be good at even strength but if the special teams don’t improve, it’ll never be a “force.”

Special teams will keep this team towards the bottom of the league if they don’t improve.

At least Verbeek has made it clear that his stated plans are not set in stone. Does anyone think Minty is being sent down to "over ripen" in the AHL?
Not even a 1% chance of that. I could see him being “ sent down” on some sort of paper transaction though. But not too actually play down with the gulls

I definitely expect to see Carlsson managed, I don’t think he’s gonna go back on that. Expect it to mostly be in the first half of the season so he doesn’t run out of gas in January

You keep referencing the NBA, where their roster needs it's stars to win. In the NHL, the roster size is bigger and there's this thing called a goalie, who can also be a star.

Anyhow, for as much as you reference the NBA, you neglect this, from wikipedia:

  • All drafted players must be at least 19 years old during the calendar year of the draft.[14]
  • Any player who is not an "international player", as defined in the CBA, must be at least one year removed from the graduation of his high school class.[14]
Leo would not qualify for the NBA draft this past season.

You need superstars to win in the NBA. You don't necessarily superstars in the NHL to win as proven by the 2007 Ducks, who went to the Stanley Cup finals.

Four game roadie coming up. It's possible that we continue to play well but nevertheless end the month with a 1-8 record.
Probably isn't a feeling shared by most, but I am trying to ignore the records and result if the team is improving from last year (which atm I think they are).

Albeit, I might need to take bathroom breaks during the PKs and PPs.

Zegras and Terry are too many cooks in the kitchen. Terry actually was dragging Z down last night, which is crazy. The 2nd line has accounted for most of the offense in the first 5 games, which is good and bad. PP has been non existent.

Just go with..

Vatrano - Leo - Terry
Zegras - McTavish - Strome

When Killer gets back..

Killorn - Leo - Terry
Zegras - McTavish - Vatrano/Strome

The way Rico has played he can play on the 3rd line.

I'll give it 10 more games before coming to any conclusions about our roster makeup, but we could have a situation where successfully drafting BPA at C and D for several years straight has put us in a situation where we just can't keep everyone and we need to trade some names we may not want to trade to fill out spots on the wing. I'd hate to lose Z, or McTavish, but the ducks need to find chemistry on multiple lines.
