Groulx - they got the contract done quickly, was happy with it. Was hoping to spend the whole year in Anaheim. First met PV when he was a teenager because his dad worked for PV in Tampa, was excited when PV was hired. Felt it was critical to improve his skating and his offense to be an NHLer and he felt he did that. Needs to work on his confidence to play the way he does in SD, in ANA. Been working out with PL Dubois, a good friend of his. He's also become friends with Hinds. Hasn't talked to McIlvane or Cronin, because he wasn't at dev camp. Will meet them at training camp. Thinks the new coaches will be very helpful to the whole franchise.

Hagg - Anaheim was one of several teams that was interested and he knew Gudas was probably going to sign there, and they're best friends, so he told his agent to make that happen. Thinks Anaheim is on the upswing and wanted to be a part of that with a franchise. Was frustrated in Philly because he felt they were coming to the end of a rebuild just before COVID hit and wanted to experience that again. Had a long talk with Cronin and was happy with it. Was injured to start the offseason but is 100% now.

Ducks Stream interviews: Stalock -- heavy minnesotan accent, sounds like a typical suburban dad. Mostly talked about taking his kids fishing and playing pickle ball. He sought out Anaheim, targeted them before the offseason and was happy they chose him. Cronin and PV both stressed that he'd be competing for a job in camp so he should show up in shape and ready. Mentioned that he was on SJ when Getz and Thornton fought in the playoffs and always enjoyed the rivalry.

Lyubushkin -- Quick interview as his answers were fairly short. He called the trade to Anaheim "good news" and I wish Alexis had followed up on that. Said he had a bunch of secondhand info about Anaheim because he's good friends with Vishnevsky, who loved it there and apparently still lives around there. Doesn't care for golf.
I had no idea Stalock was on SJ back then, must've been in the minors

Lyubushkin also said that he hopes he can wear #46 in Anaheim. That number currently belongs to Gaucher, so we will see how the team decides to handle that.

Nobody else finds it extremely worrisome that the Ducks are currently going into the season with only small middleweight Carrick the only player capable of dropping the gloves? That's a new low

We got some physicality back on the blueline with the additions of Gudas, Lyubushkin, and Haag. That improvement can be seen 35 - 60 minutes a game.

According to HockeyFights.com, there were 334 total fights last year, bear hugging to the ice included. There are 32 NHL teams who play each other for 82 games, gives a total of 1,312 games. If there are 334 fights in 1,312 games, then there are 0.25 fights per game. The team with the most fights, according to HockyFights.come, last year was the Sens with 36 fights. On the other side of the spectrum, the Rangers had 2 fights.

Rangers had 26 fights you're looking at preseason

Gudas is a sneaky good fighter, kind of reminds me of a Bieksa type fighter.

I’m not sure what you were expecting exactly but Verbeek added a fair amount of grit. Gudas, Lybuschkin, and Killorn are all somewhat gritty IMO if not just outright physical

The ducks could acquire a heavyweight to replace the Leasons and Silfverberg of the world but Verbeek seems content to draft big players and let them develop/grow into roles

This will fall on deaf ears but you just need to be patient. Verbeek is drafting the types of players YOU like

McTavish. Gaucher. Warren. Konnor Smith. Hinds. Pitre.
Not every single one of those guys is going to be a heavyweight enforcer but they bring physical traits that we need

This has a chance to

I’m praying we bring back the old ducks tough teams, as you mention. We’re certainly drafting those kind of players but that also have skill to boot. Exciting

Fighting isn't everything to me (via numbers). Its why you fight or why you don't.

This is a perfect example of the problem with the modern day ducks. Nobody did anything to Ekholm. The Ducks at this point were out of the playoffs by a mile so taking an instigator shouldn't be an issue. Anyone worth their salt beats the crap out of Ekholm that game. But nobody did anything. It shows a lack of heart, a lack of grit and ultimately a lack of self respect.

Maybe it was a coaching issue but somebody has to teach these guys the game within the game.

Here's one of the best players in the game. Sticking up for his teammate. This is the kind of attitude that the Ducks need to have. This is the kind of attitude that wins you championships.

It's a double edged sword for me.

Having Gudas and Killion (possibly Lyubushkin - jury is out on him) makes the team at least be more physical and harder to play against - BUT one or two more to are needed help insulate the Zegras and McTavish types on the team. Leason and Megna types don't push the needle for me - how do they do it for you Verbeek?

I am hoping Gaucher, Warren or even an outsider like Konnor Smith can provide more physicality over the coming years.

We may pick a tougher player up on the waiver wire by the start of the season while we have first dibs

Tough, good hockey players win games. Tough fighters that can't play help nothing. Of course guys need to stick up for their teammates, but the Bolls of the world are not worth carrying on a roster.
I agree in general but I still think there are scenarios where you'd want guys like that on your team, for example if your team is lightyears away from a playoff spot, is not expected to compete, and your top scorer/best player gets his face caved in for sticking up for your other top scorer.
