I agree in general but I still think there are scenarios where you'd want guys like that on your team, for example if your team is lightyears away from a playoff spot, is not expected to compete, and your top scorer/best player gets his face caved in for sticking up for your other top scorer.
Rico actually mentioned something about this in his interview with that Pod cast the other week. Mentioned how each guy should know how to tie a guy up even if he isn't fighting.

It's straight out of PV's mouth, including the phrase "pack mentality." He's not interested in concentrating toughness in a couple dominant fighters as deterrence. He wants players like Terry to fend for themselves until help arrives essentially.

Nobody else finds it extremely worrisome that the Ducks are currently going into the season with only small middleweight Carrick the only player capable of dropping the gloves? That's a new low
There’s not much out there now.

Maybe a camp invite for Kassian, or even Simmonds.

Don't disagree with you in any way. But even having those types of players shouldn't absolve the players from know how not to get their face bloodied. I'd love to have some more toughness in the lineup. I thinknits a lot easier to be a bit more assertive when you know all the guys behind you have your back. No one's going to charge the trenches alone. Honestly I think this is an area where PV may be a bit naive.

Just me, but I'm not sure if having a goon parked on our bench would have prevented Beagle from doing anything. Or a staged fight later when Goon came off the bench and attacked Beagle. I think the narrative that Beagle punched Terry because Ducks don't have a fighter on the roster is overblown.

This whole fighting thing is so overrated. Ducks added Killorn, Gudas, and Lybushkin Who are willing to throw the body around, and whatnot. That is what is needed, not someone who will drop the gloves.

Went through this with the Rangers with Tom Wilson. End results: Rangers got fined, fired their management, added Reaves who did nothing, and they are back to square one now.

I'll take Selannes word for about this over a fan of soft hockey

Not talking about soft hockey, I welcome those big hits and physicality. I’m talking about just bringing in a goon who does nothing else.
Nobody's talking about signing a Stu Grimson but you need at least one guy who can handle the toughest guy on the opposite team basically a Deslauriers who Verbeek could have kept and extended. Instead gave him away for peanuts never replacing that aspect.

Des was great because he was able to score a few goals here and there, kill penalties, and drop the gloves. Would never say no to a player like that. I was there when he scored his hat-trick also.

That was one trade I didn’t agree with.

Liked Deslauries, but don't think the reason Terry got pummeled was because he wasn't on the roster. Nut jobs like Beagle aren't intimidated by someone like Nic D.

Former GM Murray did trade for Des at the start of his rebuild in the summer of 2019.

That gave the Ducks two players willing to fight in D Manson and F Deslausrier. We also had Carrick developing in the AHL too. We actually put Des on Zegras' line to make sure no one took runs at our young gun.

“A fighter has to be able to do more than just fight and be good along the boards and be responsible “ new coach Cronin said something along those lines if I remember correctly. The fact that he addressed this, means imho sooner or later someone fitting the “ Colton Orr “ description or “ Matt Martin” he mentioned as said players. Will be brought in

Because he’s one of the worst skaters in the league. 2 goals, no assists in 51 games. He wouldn’t crack our roster unless we were trying to tank
Useful fighters are a dying breed, unfortunately. So when teams have these types of players, they often don’t want to part with them. We will probably have to draft one.

D-Lo was great on the team, I just hated that he was being stapled to Z for what felt like weeks at a time.

The Flyers have very little going for them, they'd probably give him up for pretty cheap
