As I work through this mock off season exercise, I'm noticing that we are facing a potential over abundance of pro prospects for next year, mainly up front. May need to look at moving out some F prospect depth to make room.

F Hvidston
Myatovic
Pitre
Sidorov

All four are 04 born CHL players, who will have fulfilled their junior obligations after this season and are AHL eligible for next year. There's also possibly Colangelo incoming as well.

Not sure that we currently have room in SD for five rookie pro forwards, something is going to have to give.

NHL RFA's, are any of these guys moved out to make room for additions and/or other young(er) players?

Lundestrom
Jones
Leason
Groulx

AHL Prospects, who from this group is ready for the next step? Which ones are change of scenery or just the likeliest general trade candidates?

Perreault
Tracey
Regenda
Gaucher
Nesterenko
Pastujov
Lopina
Caufield
Wiebe

McLaughlin - QO or let him walk?

Assuming you want to have three or four veteran types around on the AHL roster, there just isn't room for all these guys. Maybe someone like Sidorov is a candidate to loan overseas to a good men's league for the next year or two. It's not to his benefit to go back and continue playing against kids, but I'm not sure we would have top 9 AHL time for him either. Find him a spot where he can learn to adapt his game to playing against men.

What I'm ultimately getting at, I think it may be time to move at least one Perreault/Tracey type by this summer, if it's a trade that can benefit the team's future.

Luneau likely makes the NHL to stick, Dionico can be stashed overseas. The rest should probably be AHL bound, just a matter of whether we have room in SD for six/seven new rookies next year.
From the expiring contracts I assume McLaughlin will be gone, Tracey hasn't exactly made himself indispensable either but who knows. Guessing they keep Nesterenko and Regenda around. The forwards will be squeezed. There's more room on D with only Helleson and Hinds likely to return among prospects.

Yeah I amended upon further reflection because it's really more of just a F logjam at this point. I see about 2-3 too many pro forward prospects as it stands. Could see Verbeek dealing out some of the guys drafted before his tenure.

I agree, so the parade of injuries to Perreault really stinks because he was really starting to come around IMO. Was tilting the ice at times. Hopefully he comes back and stays on track this season, no idea what his injury is.

Another dude who’s always injured it seems. He will have trade value. He’s a little guy to boot. He will be packaged out of town.

Keep Lundeström, Perreault, Tracey, Regenda, Gaucher, Nesterenko and Pastujov.

There's a possibility that Pitre and Myatovic stay an extra year in the CHL. Myatovic lost half a season due to injury.

RFA's
Nesterenko
McLaughlin
Tracey
Regenda

Out of those four, McLaughlin is most likely not to be brought back. Out of those four, Regenda is most likely to be promoted to the NHL club.

What's lost in all of this is the possibility of sending players to the ECHL, which we have done already for the past couple of years with McLaughlin.

I don't know if they'd throw this many young guys in there, but the last few games of the season, I'd love to see something like this:

Killorn-Carlsson-Terry
Gauthier-Zegras-Strome
Vatrano-McTavish-Colangelo
Jones-Lundestrom-Silf

This assumes Vatrano and Silf stay, and Carrick and Henrique are traded. It also assumes Colangelo will sign. Killorn and Gauthier could be switched, although this spreads out the youth a bit more.

Please don't over-react to sending Zellweger down. This is really just so he gets to keep playing (including in the AHL All Star game) while the Ducks have their long break. It has nothing to do with punishing him, or not valuing him, or thinking he was a disappointment. It's just to get him playing time.

Just took a look at some stats.....Our D has scored 14 goals this season, with Gudas scoring 6 of them. The rest have 2 or less.

It will be crucial for guys like Zellweger/Luneau/Mintyukov to help our offense if we plan to take steps to being competitive again.
