I know it's a problem for future Ducks, but anyone think the window to keep the whole young core together might be short? If all of the young guys hit realistic potential, that's going to be a lot of money to keep them. It may require guys to take discounts to keep the core together (like Tampa did), but there is a lot of potential talent on this team... We're going to need Verbeek to get more Vatrano/Gudas type players and deals, and we need to figure out drafting forwards (or I guess Verbeek will just make defense for forward deals). It'll be interesting to see which guys are moved out.

I think how he handles McTavish is going to tell us a lot. If they play hard ball with him and make him take a bridge then I expect them to do that with everyone. If they can get McTavish signed to a team friendly deal then it sets the tone for the next summer when everyone is up.

By the way, assuming Gauthier signs and burns a year off his ELC, his contract will be up at the same time as everyone else.
Summer of 25-26:
Zegras
Carlsson
Mintyukov
Gauthier
Luneau
Zellweger

Luneau still has to play a few more NHL games to burn a year.

I see Zegras, Carlsson, and maybe Minty as the only ones that will get massive raises on their next deals, especially because Luneau is going to miss the majority of this season. The rest of the players will have 2 or less full NHL seasons under their belt. If they can sign Mac, Z, Carlsson, and Minty to reasonable, long term deals (assuming they show good progression), that sets us up for the future. Gauthier, Luneau, and Zellweger would have to have 1.5-2 massive seasons

I think we save money on defense and non-top-6 forwards. Since d-men take longer to develop, the team can eek out a more team friendly deal. We also have a few stay-at-home D that can potentially play in the top-4 and not cost too much. Our bottom-6 forward prospects don't scream, "I'll demand $4-6 mil per year," like Silf, Strome, and Killorn.

They will all be asked to take friendly deals in the spirit of maintaining a championship caliber team. I would say they will all be salivating for that after years of being so bad.

Only if we keep handing out stupid contracts to in the vein of Strome and Killorn. Otherwise no

It might become worse after the TDL.

Per AHL transactions, Hagg was sent back to San Diego, leaving 2 open spots on the active roster
That's a bit strange. That leaves us with 6 dmen for the rest of the road trip (and 1 of them has never even played a game for us) and the Gulls don't even play for 6 more days.

You think all of these prospects that we have are going to hit their ceiling? With our development history, I doubt it

One thing different than last year, but it has been discussed before, is the puck posession. In the NHL.com's stat site I can see that last year we were last in shot attempt differential (SAT) with 42.7%. And it was horrible, we were outshot every game.

This year so far we're at 24th with 47.4%. There are clear improvements, especially considering the injuries. Still a long way to go, but it's nice there are some improvements.

The question is where does the credit go to, the coaching or the roster? I say it's mostly the roster improvement on the defense that has helped immensely. We still suck offensively between the two seasons.
