2023-24 Roster Thread #6: A Hall of Famer, a doctor, a policeman and a moose walk into a bar with a Bundy...

Who are your three favorite current Flyers' players (from Oct. 30 roster on team's website)?

He had 4 points in his last 4 games. He doesn’t need to become point per game. He needs to become point every game.

Instead of trying to boost his numbers in an inevitable trade, they pointlessly tank his value. Where are we without traditions?

Reminds me of a boss I had a few years ago. He took over after my old boss left because of politics and knew that I was better at it than he gave me credit for. He then went on to nitpick everything I did, to where I got an offer to an internal transfer to other team - but policy was that I needed my manager approval. So, rather than just solve the problem and let me go, he blocked the transfer. I stayed for a while then quit after I got another job. Solution was so simple; yet ego got in the way.

Some people, with their interactions with others, just don’t do things to help either themselves or the person they are biased against. If Torts hates Frost, let him play, get his value up, then let him move on. Sigh. Makes no sense.

It’s sorta been proven that whether or not Frost is in - to Torts mind - isn’t really affecting the outcome. So build up his value.

Like you said, it simply comes down to ego.

Torts' ego is so inflated he cannot get out of his own way. At this point, it would require him to admit and show he is wrong regarding Frost's usage (and other players he inversely favors to his disapproval of Frost) in a multitude of ways.

He does not possess that level of introspection and self-reflection to hold himself accountable. The proof is in the pudding. He is the smartest man in the room. All Hail The God Emperor!

I enjoyed this description from Meltzer in his Buzz comments today:

It's supposed to be a year where the rookies and under-25 player who took steps last year are put in position to take a bigger bite of the apple. Is that's what's happening with Frost scratched half the damn season, with Brink sitting for three, with Zamula still on the NHL roster mostly because he's waiver-eligible, with Cates related for five games now to the fourth line center spot because the coach won't consider even a temporary move back to a wing? With Foerster, a player with legit scoring upside, playing like a nice fourth-liner but also producing like one while on Line 1 and PP1, and the coach just fine and dandy with it?

You know it’s bad when you’ve lost Meltzer.
With him having been a House Man for so long, one has to wonder if someone in the hierarchy of the organization is unhappy with the direction of the team under Tortorella right now and is feeding Meltzer? Briere has publicly stated that he wanted a rebuild. From what we are seeing, the HC isn't into that. He wants to win now. We'll see how this plays out. Could be very interesting.

Who knows, but I have wondered what will happen when there's butting of the heads within whatever power structure they have.

Looking ahead, while it makes sense to trade both Laughton and Atkinson, I am willing to bet this team would feel their top 9 is too "young". I think there is zero chance they trade TK unless a vet is coming back.
