Hilferty has been the CEO of a major corporation, he sees this on more than one dimension, there's the internal issues, Briere may or may not be the right choice, but hard to claim he's a dinosaur. Then there's the marketing issue, you're not an expansion team, you're selling a long rebuild to a fan base spoiled by winning. So you don't diss the Sniders, you don't diss the past heroes, etc.
HIlferty isn't Scott, a CFO who was ignorant of hockey in general and the Flyers in specific and who had limited management experience. He's a CEO who's been a lifetime Flyers fan, so he understands both the importance of the "brand" but also has seen where the organization went off the tracks.
thats the guy who killed john wick's dogfunny.
funny.
i think torts wants to be able to coach brink foerster and andrae himself and see if theyre able to keep up when the games are real. if they carry a few extra bodies they can rest them before they burn out. he probably didnt expect so many kids to still have energy after the bag skate in training camp so theyve already earned some ice time in his eyes because hes kinda petty like that but also has a huge ego thats easily stoked by blind compliance and good ol fashioned elbow greaseIs Andrae going to really get in much? Or is he most definately going to be sent to the AHL soon
Player | Goals | Assists | Points |
Farabee | 25 | 25 | 50 |
Couts | 25 | 25 | 50 |
Brink | 15 | 25 | 40 |
TK | 35 | 47 | 82 |
Tippett | 24 | 18 | 42 |
Frost | 20 | 42 | 62 |
Atkinson | 23 | 22 | 45 |
Laughton | 13 | 17 | 30 |
Cates | 15 | 20 | 35 |
Foerster | 13 | 20 | 33 |
Deslauriers | 5 | 7 | 12 |
Poehling | 10 | 12 | 22 |
Hathaway | 10 | 10 | 20 |
Not a fan of giving credit for signings to assistant GMs. Good or bad. It's actually super easy to claim Briere is a dinosaur since he pulled the Deslauriers signing and has catered heavily to a dinosaur coach as much as possible.
There's a simple reason for the "bag skate" in camp.i think torts wants to be able to coach brink foerster and andrae himself and see if theyre able to keep up when the games are real. if they carry a few extra bodies they can rest them before they burn out. he probably didnt expect so many kids to still have energy after the bag skate in training camp so theyve already earned some ice time in his eyes because hes kinda petty like that but also has a huge ego thats easily stoked by blind compliance and good ol fashioned elbow grease
ya its a conditioning test. There's a simple reason for the "bag skate" in camp.
Instead of having to monitor and micromanage players over the summer, every player knows the "gauntlet" awaits - fear and competitive pride (I'm not going to be the one who pukes on the ice) encourages them to come to camp in game shape.
Andy Reid did something similar when he took over the Eagles to weed out the players who were less than dedicated.
I haven't done this in a few years, mainly because I've lost complete faith in this team. But I'm pessimistically excited to watch some of the younger players this year. So with that, below is the list of points totals for forwards that I would consider a 'good' season. My 'projections' are the ~75th percentile result for each player, based on my expected usage and deployment for each player. This also assumes every player plays 82 games, and I know that won't happen.
Player Goals Assists Points Farabee 25 25 50 Couts 25 25 50 Brink 15 25 40 TK 35 47 82 Tippett 24 18 42 Frost 20 42 62 Atkinson 23 22 45 Laughton 13 17 30 Cates 15 20 35 Foerster 13 20 33 Deslauriers 5 7 12 Poehling 10 12 22 Hathaway 10 10 20
*Couts and Atkinson: The first part of the season should really just be focused on getting back into hockey shape. Both had decent preseason performances, Atkinson more so than Couts, but we'll see what the look like 20 games into the season. If they start off well, it's possible both of these guys have 10-15 more points this season.
*Brink/Foerster: I don't expect them both to play full seasons. I feel like Brink will get better usage in terms of offensive linemates, and I think Brink is a touch better offensively.
*TK: Completely depends on linemates. If he plays mostly with Cates and Laughton that projection number drops (and Cates' and Laughton's numbers increase somewhat). I think as some point, he's going to get a chance to play with Frost or Couts. I've said this in the past, I think TK is a 90 point player with the right linemates.
Personally, I don't think they will, but I do think they'll be better offensively this year. Couts and Atkinson back brings real effective top/middle-6 forwards back into the lineup. Frost's development, Brink's addition etc. This forward group is better than last years, there's no doubt about that. Now, defense is worse so we'll see how that goes...I like the break down, but assuming 10-15 goals from the backend, which is more than far, do you really think this team scores 20-25 more goals than they just did last year?
