My favourite part of news that devastates the contrarian narratives being posted is the ~40 minutes of silence following the breaking news where said contrarians have to sit and contemplate how they are going to polish this specific turd. Then they come in and post something unhinged and divorced from reality even by their standards, usually involving moving goal posts, saying that bad thing is actually a good thing, deflecting by criticizing something else (Hextall), that we shouldn't care about the bad thing, or straight up pretending they didn't say the thing that is now bad.

It's an absolute master class in how to attempt to gaslight an entire forum at once.
You mean how multiple young players made the team and somehow the team still hate youth

Lindros and Giroux. 30 years.

But what about maximizing the effectiveness of that fourth line, or getting back to playing the right way

Look if you want to replicate the successes of the 2010s Islanders you've just gotta build from the 4th line out.

Why anyone would want to replicate the Islanders is beyond me, but it's what everyone running the team wants.

I'm totally serious, it wasn't that long we had players like VdV, Vinnie, Lehtera, etc.
They used to be small and slow, now they're just small.
Slow? Sure. Which of Lehtera (6'2"), VdV (6'2"), or Lecavalier (6'4") was small?

The 's' word that previous and current Flyers lineups share in their lack is 'skilled'. Which is the major point where the Flyers deviate from the Carolina mold.

There are three young, waiver exempt players on the roster for now, plus Zamula. We don’t know how many will play in the first game. Most likely it will only be one or two of the four.

The team loves youth so much they're going to rotate 2 of them in one roster spot to keep Des L and Hathaway in the lineup for 82 games.

If Couturier stays healthy, but is mediocre at best, a buyout in summer 2026 would leave the following. Considering Michkov would be on an ELC, it might make sense in that scenario.

Staal will block players. As always. We don't need him as a coach. He sucks ass. Have him retire and then hire him if that's what you want.

Roles are idiotic. Role obsession is self-limiting. They chase crap players because they fill roles instead of shooting any higher.

They aren't trading Hathaway. They aren't trading Deslauriers. They aren't trading Laughton.

Still find it hilariously how much Briere was geeking out of "a player like Staal wanting to sign here." A completely washed stay-at-home defender..Rathje 2.0.

Lindros til he got hit in the head too many times was a generational player. You rarely get more than one of them at the same time.

The Flyers problem isn’t a lack of generational talent, though one would be nice, rather it’s a lack of overall high end talent at nearly every position.

You only have to go back as far as 2010 to see what I mean. That team didn’t have a generational talent, but all of Briere, Carter, Gagne, Richards, Giroux, Knuble, Hartnell and, at least that spring, Leino were all producing like top 6 forwards. On D you had a legit #1 (Pronger) another top pairing guy (Timonen) and legit 2/3 guys in Coburn and Carle.

Now, at forward, the only proven top 6 guys are Couts and TK. Tippett might be but he still needs to prove it over the long term as does Frost. The rest? Middle six guys and 4th liners and a goon. On D there are no top pairing guys and other than Sanheim and York, the rest are all unproven kids and 6/7 guys.

I mean, yeah, I’d love a Clarke, Mark Howe or Lindros, but I’d be even happier to have a Kerr, Propp, Sinisalo, Poulin, Tocchet, Zezel, Craven, Sutter up front and the aforementioned top 4 from 2010 on D.

That makes no sense at all, you hardly save anything, and you'd have to add a player to replace him. If Couts is at 3C level, he's worth keeping around in this case.

Everyone's a middle six forward until they prove themselves to be a top six forward.
If you're 21-24, there's upside left, if you're 26-28, odds are you are what you appear to be.

I’m old enough to remember that adding Yandle made the Flyers locker room the best in the league.

Same shit, different year.

Always blame it on something mystical rather then something tangible.
"Bringing in Hayes and getting rid of Jake makes the locker room better than ever"
"Bringing in Yandle makes the locker room better than ever"
"Getting rid of Yandle makes the locker room better than ever"
"Bringing in TDA won't affect such a great locker room"
"Getting rid of Hayes and TDA, and bringing in Staal and Hathaway makes the locker room better than ever"

Ok, look. Tortorella has an entire org petrified of him. He's somehow above the GM in a fungible position. He tossed TDA and Kevin Hayes with his dopey nicknames out on their asses. He's determined to work as few days as humanly possible and constantly finds new angles to do so.

I still don't want him anywhere near this team, but I must give this man some respect.
