I fully expect the Flyers will have another season of a league bottom PP. The coaches don’t understand how to scheme offense, they go out of their way to use the worst personnel combos, they value shot go boom over playmaking, and they’re pathologically stubborn about all of it.

That’s not me saying they should be top 10, but Jorts and Rocky will do their damndest to make it sub-functional. I’m not sure they got one decision right last year.

The last thing this team needs in 23-24 is a good PP...or to be good at all. Embrace the incompetence.

I'm looking forward to see the new jersey in action. But that's pretty much it.

I expect a boring, uneventful season.

Yes, truly, a small player cannot play around the net. Can't happen. We certainly have no contrary examples from recent memory, or in our own management much less.
Two of the most successful down low pp players for the Flyers this century were Danny Briere and Wayne Simmonds. Their combined weight is less than any random Tkachuk or half a Byfuglien.

At the very least, Flyers should pick up a 3rd and 4th or so at the TDL, so they'd have (2) 1sts, (2) 2nds, (2) 3rds, (2) 4ths, a 5th, (2) 6ths in the 2024 draft.
It would be nice to pick up one or two additional picks in the 2025 draft in the first 3 rounds.
That would fill out the talent pipeline to keep delivering as Gauthier (2024), Bonk (2025), Michkov (2026) et al start arriving.

They were very different styles, Simmonds was exceptionally strong for his size and great at both setting screens and deflections.
Briere was hanging around the blue paint and making plays, but little guys aren't effective at screening 6'3 goaltenders!
Short guys who play with leverage can play much bigger than their size.

I will never hate a sports team more than I hated the 90s/early 2000 Devils.
Even the owner was an asshat. I was right out of school trying to make my way in NYC. A broker I worked for would set me and my roommate up with bartending gigs out in the affluent NJ suburbs he lived in. Was friends with the owner of the Devils. I said I would forgo payment in return for Flyers/debbies tickets. He said f*** the Flyers I’m not giving him tickets. He gets cash.

Kinda funny but F him. I hit on his wife all night aha.

Maybe it'll be another evaluation year.
If the team finishes with less points than last year and the “improved” players don’t take another step forward, will the “look at how much Torts improved the team” crowd say he did a bad job and is responsible since things got worse?

Obviously the answer is “no” because they’d never admit Torts is anything except a flawless coaching prodigy, but the contradictions and lying is always fun.

Torts is a strong motivator and his emphasis on two way play is one where I think he's a solid guy to have played for even when a team isn't successful. I think the team will be worth watching this year for gaging a few things. How much has cooter recovered can sanheim get the opportunity to succeed is frost a core piece how much can tk up his value. What the hell is going on in goal

What to watch for are individual players and their progress or lack of such.
And LHV bears as much watching as the Flyers.

Until the top prospects arrive, the real contest will be the slots in the middle/bottom six and bottom 3 D-men.
Players like Michkov, Gauthier, Bonk, Foerster are pretty much locked into slots down the road (unless they fall flat on their faces).
It's the players below them and TK, Farabee, York, etc. who will be moving up or out the next couple years.

These are the guys Torts can have the biggest impact on, b/c their success depends on playing hard and smart, the difference between being a replacement player and a solid middle six forward.
Poehling, Avon, guys like that bear watching, they don't have to score 50 points, they do have to become reliable players for 10-13 minutes a night and knock in a few goals.
Most of their D prospects are probably going to end up between a #4 and #7 D-man, depending on their progress.

That's what's bears watching the next couple years, can they develop some of these guys above their initial valuation.
It'll take a couple more drafts to build critical mass at the top of the lineup, meanwhile, they can build depth to go with those players when they arrive.
Your bottom six forwards are going to play 20-22 minutes a night at ES and 2-4 minutes on the PK.
If they're below average, you'll negate some of the value of having a Michkov.

They are on a 3 year plan. We know how this will work out in the end. They have zero patience to wait the next couple years. Shit Chucks picks haven't even "arrived" let alone this past draft.

If they have any improvement the co-GM will want to add next off season. Not still "rebuild"

There isnt much of a path for the prospects at the current time.
