not to defend Ronald in any way, didn't he also do this long before chuck came on board? hell didnt he ban pizza

Chuck signed ND and ZM. Is that not dinosaur thinking?
Like I said a few years ago, Fletcher might have been better suited to be President than GM, that is, focus on administrative duties, lobbying Comcast for more resources, etc., than making deals.

I think with Hilferty holding the reins, it'll be easier to get Comcast to invest in off the ice resources, I don't think Scott had a clue and the advisors weren't much better (in our day, we skated for a couple hours then did elbow curls with 12 oz weights).

Deady, I don’t think mastery of corporate manipulation is a Fletcher strength.

He seems like a perfectly reasonable person who should never, ever have risen above a support role. He needs someone who understands how to deploy what he brings. Or to be someone else’s peacekeeper.

President is often not the decision maker, I think Jones is in the role Fletcher should have been, the guy who takes the administrative load off the GM, interacts with the league, but lets the real hockey guys make the decisions. It's obvious that the team's strategic direction was already set before Jones came on board, while he may get input, there's nothing to suggest Briere isn't the final decision maker.

Colorado did this with Sakic initially, I think. There's a lot of administrative BS that can waste a GM's time, and having someone who can glad hand and take care of those details frees time for other duties. Over time, you hire people you trust to do these things and you can take on more titles with less work.

I find it ludicrous to handwave the entire position as a gladhander. The position means so many different things to so many orgs that I can’t believe anyone would attempt to categorize it so broadly.

You have absolutely no way of knowing what the individual roles are in this org. Neither do I. But I’m not the one making the definitive statement.

We know that Briere/Torts set the strategic direction before Jones came on board, and he's even admitted that accepting those two was one of the conditions of his hiring. This means Hilferty is on board with the plan presented to him for the rebuild, and Jones implicitly bought in by accepting the post.

Hilferty is the real decision maker, he's an experienced CEO, unlike Scott, who was a CFO with limited line management experience - why Scott got the job in the first place is a good question, was it a favor by Roberts Sr? I doubt Hilferty will micromanage, but like any CEO, he'll sign off on any major strategy change or big money FA signing (Middleton is consulted for any major signing by Dombrowski).

There is no rebuild.

Wait wait are they actual going to waive Zamula? Hahahaha

Another sacrifice to Emperor Godking Tortoropea!

He was really sharp tonight with Sanheim, from what I saw. Like realistic NHL pairing sharp against a better lineup. I can't imagine they actually waive him. This team is mind game central. Perhaps Tortorella will challenge him to a wrestling match tomorrow to test his will.

Maybe they play Seeler and Staal over him, and he's in some rotation. Zamula, if he plays to his potential, would be the 3rd best defender on the team. They might not know it, but have you seen their defensive evaluating over the years? Why would they?

Maybe ASF was blowing smoke from a source with no clue.

Zamula was paired with Sanheim on the first pair and played a lot of minutes, does that sound like a player they're looking to discard?

They gave Zamula a legitimate shot to show he belongs, now he has three games to show this one wasn't a fluke.

theyd be crazy to waive zamula and keep seeler. ive never been the biggest zamula fan but he looked comfortable tonight, just needs more reps to find his timing but there was a lot of really smart plays he made defensively especially stick plays. torts was willing to carry 7 defense for stretches last season, maybe they give him the SKA treatment and give him russian style minutes. The snow the goalie guys keep saying the plan isnt to play Staal every night but they also said they might waive Z, could be some people expected Andrae to be the extra man but I think Z made his case tonight that nothing should be decided yet. Seeler had a decent year but not good enough to sacrifice a prospect imo.

You spent last offseason proclaiming Zamula to be an NHL player then defended the wrong decision not to play him.

Seeler was solid out there with Belpedio, doubt they'd waive him, he has some trade value.
If Zamula keeps this up, Staal will be the 7th D-man, Andrae will start the season in LHV.

But three games and a bunch of scrimmages left with mostly the players competing for jobs.
So too early to know who'll win out.

Seeler played his way into a starting job.
Isn't that how competition works?

No he didn't. He was gifted it because he fights. This was predicted long in advance.

You yourself were proclaiming that Zamula should have been starting over him. We remember. We also remember how you instantly changed your tune to defend a decision contrary to what you proclaimed best.

Too early, except the 4th line.

Frost has lined up with both Farabee and Tippett at LW, though I think they'll keep him with Tippett.

So
Farabee (23) - Couts (31)
Tippett (24) - Frost (24)
Atkinson (34), TK (26) fill out the top 6, but which line?

Laughton (30) - Cates (24) with either Foerster (21) or Brink (22)
Deslauriers (31) - Poehling (24) - Hathaway (32)

That leaves Alison (26), Laczynski (26), Lycksell (24) on the outside looking in.

D-pairs? Who knows?
York (22) LHD, Sanheim (27) RHD,
Risto (29) RHD, Walker (29) RHD
Seeler (30) LHD, Zamula (23) LHD
Staal (34) LHD, Attard (24) RHD
