Well, he's about the same height as Allen Iverson.

When people talk about the strength of drafts, they generally mean how good the top handful of prospects is.

I strongly urge you all to ignore draft strength talk. Just get picks and make good wagers. It will be fine.
Yeah, strength tends to focus on the top ten players, often top five and ignore how deep the talent pool goes that year.
Though there have been some strong and weak drafts, 2015 was deep, 2014 and 2016 more shallow, especially 2016.

But even in weak drafts you can hit on players in the 2nd to 4th rds (after that it gets tough, and I think tougher now as scouting, video, etc. is worldwide and extensive, so fewer players slip through the cracks, though the COVID years were an exception due to a missed season in some leagues).

Any thoughts on projects like Kostin or Bear/Foote for the Defense Whisperer Brad Shaw to "fix"?

If they'll sign 1 year deals, sure? Best case scenario, we trade them for a decent pick at the deadline. Worst case, they leave next summer

So what completely worthless UFA do the flyers grab?

Why do I think we'll wind up with Yamamoto? Seems like a guy that won't contribute much offense (when not riding McDrei's coattails), that will play on the PK, and is "young." With his low offensive ceiling, defensively useful, completely bland profile, he seems like he's born to be a Tortorella pet.

We need some bodies the next couple years before the prospects start arriving.
This is why drafting Michkov and drafting two goalies high is a commitment to rebuilding, none will contribute for 3 years.
Bonk might be up in 2025-26, he'll get force fed in London for two years.

Torts don’t want a guy shorter than him

This is useful

JVR, 1yr/$1M, no wonder they couldn't get anything for him, Wheeler got 1yr/$800K.

ROR got the only real contract 4yr/$18M.

They couldn't get anything for him because Fletcher blows. This is JVR doing a team a favor to take a run at a Cup. His value is not less than Reaves for f***s sake

Fletcher is no doubt an idiot but I do think it's pretty clear that JVR didn't have too much value last year.

He should have retained 50% last year and took almost the first offer.

It's almost like lots of people overvalue their own players.... That's where a GM has to be smart. Understand the value of said player, don't try and time the market too much, and know when to pull the trigger.

I'd really hope that this season is all about stockpiling picks for next year since they have all the damn time in the world now and can't use the "new GM" excuse anymore. A sane person would be prepping for the arrival of Michkov and tanking the next two years. But sanity and Flyers, well, you know they go together like peanut butter and broken glass.

Let's say Couturier and Atkinson are healthy. Are we worried that this team might be over .500?
Very much so. With the exception of the Provorov trade, this team has shown zero signs of rebuilding. Either they sold a rebuild to the fans in order to get a grace period, or Torts told them they’re selling vets he likes over his dead body and they buckled.
